OK, so thanks to this forum we have now successfully set up our self service paint station. I had a little smile to myself because the idea was met with a little anxiety from my (lovely and very effective) team. But to everyones surprise the children have taken to it really well and so far no major incidents! I would really like to make the rest of our creative materials a lot more accessible to the children and wondered if anyone had any ideas. I have seen some tilt bins in the TTS catalogue and thought this might be a possibility but thought I would see what wonderful ideas were already in use. I currently have a cupboard with boxes of bits and pieces in, an art tro…

Puzzled By Puzzles...

Hi again! I'm becoming quite the regular on here these days! Latest question, we have lots of children who really enjoy puzzles, and several who have no clue hw to do them, so obviously this is something we include in our continuous provision, however my question is - where does it fit in to the new Development Matters? It must be in there somewhere, but only reference I can find at the moment is in the 16-24mths to do with trying to fit puzzle pieces in... Where / How would you include puzzles in your planning? Thanks guys xx

Is Every child matters and the five outcomes still used/relevant under the new EYFS? I have googled but it is not at all clear if it has been archived or if we should still be using it.

Hi everyone, I have got an observation on monday and am struggling to think of ideas. We are being graded against the new Ofsted framework so it has o be at least good - eek! Most of the children are very new to Nursery so are still quite shy with two EAL children also. The theme that week is families and it will be a speaking and listening focused observation. So far I have asked that the children send photographs of their families in so we could use these. I have been introducing the makaton signs to the children as well. I just don't know how to structure the small group (should all the children hold a photograph, should they pass one around at a time, should…

Hello Has anyone updated the 'clip-on Look, Listen and Note' file (originally produced by Biccy, I believe). They were so useful and I don't want to 're-invent the wheel' if someone out there has already done this and are willing to share. Many thanks - and to Biccy for the original!

Hello Everyone. At the moment I am planning for a class of 14 reception children, 12 nursery children (soon to be 16 in Jan) and 1 T.A. I have a seperate phonics weekly plan to differentiate activities from phase 1 and 2 phonics, a CLL sheet, a MD sheet, a continuous provision sheet and a sheet with all the other areas on including Adult-Led activities. I feel a bit bogged down with lots of planning. I use previous observations from the children to plan activities for the next week. I was wondering how other mixed nursery and reception classes plan?? All suggestions would be much appreciated THANK YOU!! Amy

Can I ask for some more useful info? I have started trying to observe from the Leuven Scale and would like to know how anyone uses the information they get from it? Also do you observe at different times? A child could be very involved one minute and flitting around the next so how do you make a balanced judgement of their level on the scale or does that just apply to what you are observing at the time? How often would you observe from the scale? Thanks
