Hi all, I am sitting here back to planning for nursery... Looking at the new development matters, and I saw this one: "Begins to break the flow of speech into words" I know this was in the old EYFS and I still have no idea what they mean by it... please help! Thanks! Debbie xx

Interpreting Development Matters

Hi can anyone tell me what would do if you had observed a four year old completeing a complex puzzle, however when looking at the development matters in 16-26 months it mentions completeing puzzles sometimes successfully however this child is working at a higher level than simply attempting the puzzle but there is no further mention of this skills in the higher age brackets. Someone has said to just mark the observation at the level you feel they are working in this area of learning but im not sure that works help please

Hi, having bit of a dilemma as the children love taking home their work, so much so we have nothing for LJ's! I don't want them just full of photos and obs but this is what is happening. We encourage the children to stick things in their LJ's if they want to but a lot of them want to take it home for mummy etc which is understandable. I have taken photos of their pics etc and photocopied some but have manager on at me about costs so can't really do this. Am getting to the point of thinking do I encourage them to do it twice!!

****Just realised I have posted in the wrong forum - could admin move this to Early Years Observation, Planning and Assessment if possible?***** Morning all, I have searched and searched and been back and forth with ideas of how to revamp our children's learning journeys. I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me how they document children's learning and development. Also, if anyone has any photographs of their journeys this would be really useful as I would like to inspire my staff team!! Any help or advice much appreciated

Ok getting in a bit of a muddle Many of you have said your keypersons do activities for their key children - can anyone share a planning sheet for this please? How many activities do you have happening throughout the session? Can you tell me do you do whole group focus activities as well as individual keyperson activities? I get that we meet our key childrens individual next steps through playing, enhancing provision and activities but we are also trying to do a main activity to introduce new knowledge and skills- maybe we are trying to do too much! Can you lovely people help please thanks

Hello. I have to say, I like the revised EYFS and do think it is simplified. Last term our Pre-School was using the original EYFS profile sheets to highlight.. Are we not using these at all anymore then as I can't see any revised profiles anywhere? Sorry if i'm being really simple here!

Outside Space

Hi! Can i just ask what others do with there outside space, we are having a dreadful time with ours. The whole area is grass and this is causing a big problem as it is no longer grass more of a mud pond!!! I know we are suppose to allow the children out everyday and the kids love the mud but the more they use it the worse it gets and the amount of mud being trampled indoors is a nightmare, we have boots and all in one suits but it is just getting so bad, we dont have much money and was wondering what flooring others use outside, we looked into bouncy tarmac but it will cost thousands and we dont have that sort of money. We thought it would dry out over the summer break b…

Just wondered if anyone has managed to put the statements for the 7 areas onto 7 A4 sheets - apologies if I've missed this somewhere else. Would really like to display these for staff...

I want to introduce some small wow moment forms (maybe postcard size) just to have out in our foyer for parents to take a jot things on. I'm sure i've seen some on here but can't find them anywhere. I wanted something with just a small amount of writing on to explain briefly what the parents might want to write. Anyone got any ideas please?
