Hi all I'm trying to be organised and redo our contuous provision sheets for Sept as well as other things and the more I look into it I can't help feeling I am going wrong. Do I still put planning for all 7 areas down or do I just do prime areas? If I am planning for prime areas is it supposed to be the specific areas will follow or that it is specific areas that should be planned for and the prime areas will just come naturally Does that make sense? feel like I am in a mind whirlpool at the moment, help!

Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone had any fab new ideas about how to encourage parents to note the 'wow' moments they see their child displaying which would then be added to their learning journals. I have the old ideas like leaves on a tree etc... but was wondering if anyone had any interesting ideas for inspiration? Thanks.

Focused Activities

Hi All, Like many other people, I am contemplating my planning for the coming year. I work in one of two Nursery classes, attached to a Primary School. We have 2 classes of 26 children, morning and afternoon - 104 children on role. I am considering scrapping Focused Activities as such. At the moment we plan around predictable interests then we would sit down as a team (6) and think about activities that would fit into all Areas of Learning. For example, "Growing" - planting seeds (KUW), observational paintings of flowers (CD) etc.. However, we are finding that it is either the same children that join these activities, or if we ask particular children t…

It seems through reading your posts many of you use a continious provision sheet which is displayed and doesnt change weekly and alongside this you also have an enhancement sheet We have an enhancement sheet but it seems to be being used for mixed purposes! We use it for adding things for individual children on the days that they are in but also to enhance the area for the week. It might be that the observations showed they really enjoyed the gloop with animals on Friday so on Monday we will put it back out - but then the indidivdual planning for a child might say add playdough out with number cutters for Billy. on Monday. Does this make sense are you getting my …

Hello! I have recently started working as an EYP in a preschool that takes children from 2, and I have come from a large chain nursery where planning and observations had to be done a certain way and were checked often by the higher powers! So I'm trying to figure out the best way to plan in my new setting, and I just don't know if I'm getting it right or not, so would appreciate some feedback! Spontaneous observations carried out all of the time.... I have devised some sticky labels that we will just jot down a quick sentence on, circle areas of development, age bracket and learning style, write DM and next steps. All of this fits on a sticker that fits 8 to a pg…

Hello All, After reading the article" Motivational Planning" by Sue Ridgway, I wanted to open the links to see what the related planning formats looked like. However I just keep getting a message that says the link is not working. I have sent an email to technical support but have not had a reply. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might be able to rectify this problem. Thanks folks!!!

Physical Development

Is anyone 'old enough' to remember the 'Persil Funfit' scheme? It was introduced by Persil around about 1993 with the aim of promoting fun and fitness to children (as well as brand loyalty!). In return for a number of collected points schools, pre-schools, gym clubs etc could register for the scheme and receive a resource pack and teaching materials. I have been using the assessment tool for nearly twenty years now and it works really well. So, with the importance of 'Physical development' now recognised, I want to share the assessment tool with anyone who would like to use it! Basically, the programme is divided into three areas - ABC - 'Action', 'Balance' a…
