Hi there!! Oooooh my very first post (well after introducing myself that is...) so here it goes!! Well i shall start with where i work, Scotland, and going by the amount of posts on the 'Scotland' thread, im guessing not many of the rest of you's are however, thats not going to stop me from asking lots of questions! About a few months ago, my role changed and i needed to basically create a whole new way of planning and observing, as well as supervise three other staff, and although i found this extremely difficult and spent most of my evenings making notes, stressing and having headaches, i finally had a product i was pleased with. It worked well for about the fi…

Hi everyone Im looking for some advice/opinions on profiles/records of achievments for the under threes, was thinking along the lines of small A5 folders that could contain photographs of the children throughout thier time at nursery, observations of developmental milestones such as sitting up, walking first words etc and maybe some paintings etc. Do you think this would be suitable? Does anyone else have any ideas? Thanks Grafter x

Hi Could someone please help I have an 18 month old who just loves ladybirds, we have to go out in the garden as soon as she arrives to check them and then throughout the day we have to go and look at them ( I have a few that have made my garden fence their home) I need some inspiration as where to take this... If she was older I have plenty of ideas, its the fact that she is only 18 months and a lot of the activties are not suitable, I feel that I am missing a perfect learning experience ... maybe I am thinking too much (I am a childminder) Tink69

hello ladies - this is my first post lthough I've been a member for over a year - I'm quite shy lol! My apologies first because this is a personal question about my own child and not about the children/setting I work in (Nursery teacher in FS Unit) My daughter is 2yrs5months and on Tuesday took off her nappy and declared she wasn't wearing them anymore. So we trained her and by the weekend she was more or less sorted She has had a couple of 'leaks' over the weekend but immediately runs to the potty and finishes off there. I took her to nursery this morning and announced our news. Instead of being met with the comment I was expecting (great news, what have …

Self Selection In The Baby Room
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi Everyone In our Baby room (0-2yrs) we currently have the majority of the toys stored at adult height, except the larger toys and there are some smaller toys on the window ledges. We generally select the toys to put out using the childrens interests and observations as a guide. The children then choose between whats out to play for At our recent Ofsted inspection, she mentioned that we need to consider ways to make more opportunity for self selection in this age group. We are struggling for ways to do this. Just wondering how everyone else does it in their baby rooms and if anyone has any advice or suggestions? Many Thanks

HI, i have been a childminder for over 4 years. one of the children that I care for is 2.5 years and he has been coming to me since he was 1 year old. the problem that i have is that he will not speak to me, not even in a wisper which he will sometimes do to my assistant but even this is rare. he is the youngest of 4 and his mum assures me that he talks fluently and confidently at home and with family friends. in 1.5 years he has said about 3 sentences to me. when he was smaller and not talking he would babble to himself in the car. I didnt make an issue of it to begin with because i thought he was shy or upset about being away from mum. its only recently that it has occu…
