Babies Mark Making

Hi There. I hope this is in the right place. I don't really have experience of working with babies and have been asked to do some activities with a baby room around mark making. I wanted to start with sensory materials in powder form and was thinking of custard powder, coffee, chocolate, baby powder, etc. Are these all safe to use with babies, obviously supervised. Many thanks

This is rather an awkward topic to write about, but i would appreciate any feed back. Does anyone know if it is normal for little girls to sometimes have a little bit of discharge in their knickers.

Supporting Baby Room As Eyp

I've posted this in here as it is an under threes discussion, just as a result of eyps training. Anyway am starting an intermitant baby placement at my local day nursery who I have previously worked for and have good links with staff. I visited the staff briefly a few weeks ago to explain why I would be volunteering and what my aims were- to support and lead them with something they felt they wanted to improve upon. The three staff present (1 had day off) identified the following areas/issues they wanted to improve. I said I would go away and have a think and research to see what I could find the most info to support them with and therefore be the most realistic 1. suppo…

I work with parents/carers and their children aged from birth to 5. Does anybody have any ideas of how to support this area of development or have suggestions of articles or books.

Hi, Am in need of some help! What sorts of things do you have in your nappy changing areas for children to engage with? Is the time treated as a time to engage with the child and interact with them, or simply a conveyor belt of nappies which need changing? Thankyou!

Creche Baby Care

I am a teacher in a school based nursery, we have been asked within our nursery to provide additional care for 1-4 children from 0-3 years for 2hrs on a monday. I am unsure from the welfare guidelines if I can do this. I understand that we would need to ensure our ratios, our ratios are correct for our age group but adding younger children into the same room!?! what about the environment we must have to have baby changing facilities etc... I feel we can not provide this service?!? Many thanks for any comments - i have just started teaching in this nursery and not fully up together with childcare for younger children Anita

I was wondering if anyone could help me ? I have to produce two activity plans for the under three's(bit out of my depth for babies) as I work in a pre-school. Does anyone have a plan I can look at for treasure baskets or role play ? I would be very grateful as it will give me some ideas. Thanks Motherclangerx

Under 3's Next Steps
by Guest- 6 replies

Can you help? Some of the practitioners in my nursery are struggling to plan appropraite next steps for the children in their learning (0-3yrs) . Most seem to want to push the children onto next steps in which they feel the children should be learning, for example the old favorites like recognising colours, numbers, etc. I am trying to help our practitioners think beyond this and support each child individually and i am in the process of putting together a pack which will help them when trying to plan next steps for the children. My experience is mostly with pre-school aged children so i am finding this a bit of a challenge. Can any of you guys suggest some ap…

I have a new child who has just had his first birthday. He's a lovely baby who is very contented and is settling well. When he started his mum told me that she can't persuade him to feed himself. I have offered him finger food and spoons and although he picks them up he never puts them near his mouth. He also never puts toys or his hands in his mouth but he does ram his comforter (a muslin square) in there when he is feeling stressed (e.g. when mum has just left). I'm not particularly worried about it as I think he'll probably start at some point but I thought I'd run it by you experts to see what you think. Is it common? All feedback gratefully received. …
