Supporting Babies Walking
by Guest- 16 replies

Hello, First post so hopefully in the right place. I'm currently a student on placement in a 0-5 setting and working in babies room. Was chatting with aparent who was concerned that their daughter wasn't walking much (age 10mths) and wanted to know what they could do to support them. I discussed having supervision for them to 'bridge walk' between sofas and other furniture at their height and talked about how each child will develop at their own pace but wondered if anyone had any links to artices or support that I could pass onto the parent. Thanks all Graham

Hi all I work with children aged 20- 36 months and have been giving lots of thought to our art area at present. How can we offer free choice for access and choices of paint/ glue etc on a practical level with children of this age? Most days at least 1 of the key people in the room will have some kind of art as an adult initiated activity for a child in their group and of course all the other children are free to take part too if they wish but I feel they should some how be able to access the resources themselves. We are trying to do this, we have paint in small pots and glue in small pots, paper at there level on a trolley etc but they don't seem to access it, des…

Mute Child?
by Guest- 9 replies

Just wondered if anyone could point us in the right direction? We have an 18month old in our baby room who appears, apart from crying when distressed, to be more or less mute. He only smiles when he is happy - none of the staff have heard him actually laugh. Apparantly all his hearing checks have been fine, but we are getting increasingly concerned that he doesn't babble or seem to make any sound using his mouth at all. Has anyone ever come across this before? Thanks for any replies.

Hello everyone! Not been on FSF for ages, been on my hols and various other bits but I'm back so hi! I'm hoping to do a display for the parent's on the importance of books for under 3's. I want it to be informative, attractive and show the parent's how fun it can be to share books with their babies/toddlers. I have a few ideas and intend on putting up lots of photo's of the children enjoying stories, story boxes, active stories etc. Some Book recommendations etc. I also want some facts and statistics to put up though, maybe some quotes I can use. I seem to remember getting a leaflet filled with useful facts about the benefits of reading with under 3's fr…

Songs For Babies And Toddlers
by Guest- 11 replies

Does anyone know any good songs that babies and toddlers really enjoy other that the usual ones? I was thinking of introducing some bouncing on the knee type of songs for the babies, although really need one-to-one for that - as well as some big chairs - does anyone manage to do this perhaps when some of the other babies are asleep?

As long as they are watched to ensure they don't eat it and wash hands after, do people let babies play with it?

Potty Training 1 2

Does anyone else think that parents are toilet training their children later and later. I know we shouldn't compare but my own children were all toilet trained by 2yrs - it seems 3plus is more the norm now - do you agree? I don't want to rush children who aren't ready into being trained but there does need to be some lead from the adult doesn't there? How do others support children with potty training in settings when parents haven't already made a start?

Hi As part of an assignment I need to devise a parent workshop that focuses on the development of under 2's. I have never had to do or seen a parent workshop and was hoping that you could give me some advice on the format of them. I am thinking of doing something about discovery bottles and treasure baskets, making it hands on for parents. I only have to prepare an outline of the workshop but wondered how other peopele ran them. Thank you x
