2 Year Olds

Hi I posted a few weeks ago and mentioned I was moving into the 2-3's base room of the private day nursery in which I work. I have been based in there for about 4 weeks now and although it is very different I am quite enjoying it. I do feel sometimes the day is a whirl of child-initated play, mealtimes and changing nappies/potty training, which I know is the whole point and the children are all very happy and usually are very involved in what they are doing. I'm just wondering, how others in similar settings structure their day? Do you have much/any adult initiated time at all? Does anyone have any lovely inspiring ideas I can inject to the room as maybe f…

Focused Activities ? How Many ?
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi all I am looking for some advise about Focused Activities for 0-3s please. We have Continuous Provision Posters and add enhancements based on our observations of children and information from parents. We also have individual plans based on key interests the child has and on these plans observations and extensions are added. They then form part of the Learning Journey. But I have been thinking about Focused Activity Plans! I see these coming from the Enhancements to the basic provision. I want to show how we differentiate the tasks for children of different abilities. But I am confused over how many to these Focused Activity Plans to do. I think to start…

Hi, everyone this is a fantastic site and extremely welcome since eyfs burst into our lives, it seems to be taking over mine! Ive been on the forum for a while, but have never posted a topic, so please bear with me. I am extremely interested in heuristic play and would like to provide some reasonably cheap materials for the children I supervise, they are aged 18 mths to 30 mths and your help would be greatfully appreciated. Thank you

Singing Sack

Hi Everyone, I'm relatively new to the forums and very new to 0-3. I'm moving to the 2-3's room of the day nursery I work in, in a couple of weeks time. I've been looking at the development matters in the EYFS, just to give me a rough idea of what sort of stage the children will be at and to get my mind working about activity ideas that I could provide. Although I need to wait untill I actually get to know my key children and their interests first, I feel it's good to be prepared and having worked in pre-school for 3.5 years, I desparately need to remember what the littler ones can do/enjoy/learn from. One thing I would love to do is a singing sack, we do this in…

Sharing Information With Parents
by Guest- 4 replies

I work in a creche that has a large proportion of under 3 year olds. I wonder how other people share information with parents of children in this age group? We have a sheet with lots of headings that we fill in during each session for each child (which is quite time consuming I think). Do other settings do this? I wonder if there are other methods that could be used instead eg a nursery/home book or just a chat with the key worker, or just a board showing the activities of the session and what they had to eat? Would be very interested to see what others do - whether creches or other types of setting? I quite like the idea of a home/setting book, (as this would …

Late Talker?

I have a 23mth old boy who i've looked after since he was 6mths old. His understanding is good, plays well, concentrates - possibly for longer than would be expected for his age but his speech is developing very slowly. I mentioned this to mum about 6mths ago and explained that I was supporting his language development by lots of naming and labelling of his favourite items/pointing to pictures in books, on walks etc all the usual things. She asked me if she should be worried and I said no of course not, he's developing at his own pace and I had no concerns in other areas but I wanted to try and encourage him to use words. Over the last few months he has started to use wor…
