Hi all, Does anyone have a treasure basket for their under 0 -3's. It's something i've been wanting to do for a long time but have run out of ideas what to put in it. I have a big wicker basket, and have started to collect items to go in it, eg. wooden spoons, nail brush, loofer, natural sponge, selection of material squares. Can anyone suggest anything else. All contributions will be very welcome.

We have recently seperated our 0-2 year olds into 0-1's and 1-2's. The 0-1's have now moved downstairs into a new room which has left the 1-2 year olds with a lot more space and it has made me think again about our planning. We have four different play rooms - the first room contains role play, home corner and small world activities. The second contains construction, sensory/heuristic play, shape sorters, books (the toys are rotated daily). The third room is purely for messy activities and contains sand/water trays, a table for activities and a bulders tray. The last room is a sensory room (currently being developed) and has a soft play house, ball pool, activity wall pan…

Has anyone out there working with 0-3s got a system of recording their observations of children's development and progress in a nursery that they really think works well and would be willing to share? And how do you make sure that information and records are transferred effectively when a child moves up from your group/room? do you arrange meetings between existing and new keyworkers if there is a change when a child moves rooms? I've been asked to overhaul the system of observations, assessments and record keeping in a room for 2-5s but think it makes much more sense to introduce a co-ordinated approach for the whole nursery and am doing a lot of research at the …

As some of you will know I hope to start my new possible job (doing a Work Trial first) working as a qualified nursery practitioner in a new baby unit 0-2 years old from tommorow. It as been a while since I worked in a baby room and I want to create a good impression on the nursery so they will employ me. I have ordered some of Featherstones books to read and been reseaching on the internet also. So Does anyone have any useful tips for working with babies and toddlers under 2? I am feeling a little bit nervious. TIA Beth

Toddler Room Layout
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi. In my toddler room, we now have specific areas for the children to play in, these being: construction area, book corner, maths table, creative area, and communication table. I am hoping for another mat to go in the centre of the room to allow the children space to explore small world equipment, as we have quite a lot of it that isn't really being utilised enough. My question, however is this: basically our creative area consists of a sand/water tray. And that's it but largely because of a lack of space. We struggle daily to find different things to put into the tray (the children aren't allowed to play in water, during the winter ). We have tried a variety o…

Birth To Three Matters Records
by Guest- 1 reply

I have been desperately trying to get my hands on a Surrey Birth to Three Toolkit - the one with the records booklets in - but Surrey EY Dept won't let me have one because I am a nanny and therefore not eligible for their help (GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!) I managed to borrow the CD from a local nursery to copy, but I can't open any of the PDF files. Has anyone either got a copy of the CD Rom and can send me the 4 PDF files for the records, or does anyone know where I can get some good Birth to Three Matters recording sheets online. I looked at the Worcester Council website but the Surrey ones are really simple and I want something easy to do. It may be that someone …

we would like to include a five/ten minute group time for our 2/3 yr olds. We have got the usual story, sonds, mucical instruments etc just wondering if anyone has any good fun things that they do with their littlies. We thought this would be a good social opportunity for all to be together for a very short time.
