Social Stories

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any experience writing Social Stories for children with eating disorders. I wrote some previously in my last job for children with autism (their intended purpose), but the eating disorders clinic that one of our children attends suggesting them to help with his eating. Have found some generic examples on the internet but wondered if any of you had seen them working with children with eating disorders. The child is 4. Julie

3rd Birthday

Have just been on a very thought provoking BTTM course. The trainer was saying that often in nursery settings it is very much a case of "Happy 3rd birthday. Off you go now to the FS Curriculum". She was saying that there is very little carry over of the components of BTT, and that it can be such a dramatic change for children. I would welcome any advice or views people have on how you carry BTT through to the FS.

Bt3 With Links To Stepping Stones
by Guest- 3 replies

I am writing plans for a toddlers room. We have children working at birth to three and st. stones level. At the moment the planning format only has bt3 links and a + column for the older children. My instinct tells me that I should be linking the activities to the st. stones for our older children. What do other people do? Can anyone let me see a format like this that they use. I would be very grateful.

Starting From Scratch (sorry, Long!)

As you all know, I recently got a job in a DN (it's my second day!). Today I was offered the position of Acting Baby Unit Leader, basically as a trial leading up to the role of 'Actual' Baby Unit Leader in January. At present, the babies are following the FS Curriculum, but obviously this is something I intend on changing pretty pronto. The planning the staff are doing is way over and above what they should be doing and isn't relevant anyway. The rooms are in a bit of a sorry state, but perfectly safe for the children. I have had soooo many ideas in the last 2 days and I wanted to run them past you all for honest opinions. 1. Removing the tables from the 0-1 y…

Hi guys, I was looking at a job for a baby room leader and I am interested to find out what the baby room leader role is all about? I am not sure of the age grouping, it could be a 6 mths to 12-15 months or a 1 to 2 years room. It is a big nursery with appox 60 places for children. Could you tell me what the diffences are between each age groups, like planning for the age groups, toys, organising the rooms and staffing. If you can help me, I will then get a greater understanding of what a baby room leaders role is, previous baby room leaders I have worked under have not been very supportive and not given me a clear role to work towards, m…

Ofsted - Room Changes
by Guest- 12 replies

I am in a nursery with a 0 to 2s room, a 2 to 3s room, and a 3 to 5s room. The 0 to 2s room has a group of children that are 20 months and over, and are ready for the move up. I have heard about settings that look at individual children, and if the staff team feel that they are ready to move up, and would benefit from the opportunity of mixing with the older children; exploring the environment and activities that are on offer; and the increased opportunity to progress with their milestones - then Ofsted have allowed them to move these children up early, provided they can demonstrate that they are able to provide appropriately for them, and that the necessary staff …

I would be really grateful if anyone working in a baby room or a two year old room would take time to list the furniture, tables, chairs, changing units, shelving etc in their rooms. I have been asked to cost out equipping these two rooms as a possible new build on the side of our existing pre school. We are thinking of possibly 6 in the baby room and 12 in the two year old room. I can work out resources and put a ball part figure in, but would like some info on how many cots people have in their rooms and nap facilities for the 2 yrs. Fold up beds, cushions etc. Many thanks in advance
