Hi all! I need your valued help and ideas.... as part of my appraisal I have been asked to write a good practice guide for all PVI providers in the LA district in which I work. I have to identify areas of good practice that I think are crucial to working with the under 3's and then visit local nurseries that demonstrate this practice and take photos to accompany the theory, case studies and activity ideas that I plan to include. What I'm after is some ideas of what you guys, as front-line practitioners, see as being the most important things? I am going to include info on the underpinning theories, key person, adult/child interaction, working with parents etc…

Hi As an Early Years Adviser we have been asked by some of our settings for support with planning for the 2-3 age group. We have begun work on some medium term planniong formats based on BTTM and 'Key Times' a Framework from one of the London Boroughs. One particular setting we worked with last term are going to pilot them for us this term and let us know how they work. Let me know if this would be of interest and if so I shall report progress. Happy New Term for those just starting back! Jo

I have just taken over our 2-3yr old session and we have one group which is purely boys!!!! Although this may change as we still have a few spaces left to fill. Anyway all the boys want to do is run around, and it can become very hectic. Any ideas of how to change this situation without squashing their energy and enthusiasim???

Weekly Bttm 'plans'
by Guest- 27 replies

My boss has asked me to devise a BTTM weekly plan much like the ones we use with out FS children. I received some planning sheets from the early years team but my manager doesn't want me to use them as they are daily plans. Has anyone got any ideas as to how I could go about making a plan that covers all the areas I need it to? I'm having trouble with headings and with general layout. I thought I could adapt the daily plans I received and turn them into weekly ones but I don't think it covers everything. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks! Clare

Could anyone help me with planning for the BTTM. From September we will be accepting children from 2 years old. In the past I haven't needed to plan for the under 3's as the Nursery has only been open for a year. I am on a waiting list for The BTTM course with the rest of the staff. Could anyone share any planning with me I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance

Some Advice Please!

Hi All. I wanted to ask your opinions on something and I know someone will be able to reassure me!! My daughter is 2.4 years old, she has attended early years settings with me from the time she was three months old as I was doing my NVQ3. She is a very lively child, going through the usual 2 year old behaviour stages etc, her favourite word is 'no'! She has very good language and memory skills, she can speak in complete sentences, which are mostly grammatically correct and she only needs to be told what something is once, before she remembers what it is and can say correctly what it is. She is a big fan of Balamory and carries her talking Miss Hoolie and Josie…

Hi all, Help! We have a child who has just started at nursery. He attends full time and comes from a previous nursery where he was full time. Mum has said that she took him out as the previous nurseries behaviour management was appaling and they used to tell her infront of the child that he was naughty! He is in the pre-school room, but isn't three until August. He does seem to struggle sometimes in the afternoon, so we have been allowing him time in the two to three year olds room for some chill time. He has been really benefiting from this and is calmer and quiter in the toddlers room than the pre-school room (where his sister is also untill she starts sc…

Birth To 3 In Nursery Class?
by Guest- 18 replies

I have recently started teaching in a nursery class in a primary school. The children turned 3 between September 2004 and August 2005. In January we are taking in more children who will have turned 3 between September 2005 and Christmas. As these children will be an academic year below the others, do they start on the foundation stage curriculum or will they need to do birth to three matters? It doesn't seem right if they are expected to be doing the same work as children a whole academic year ahead?! Very aprehensive about it all! No one in school seems to know!
