Hello My first post so please be gentle with me! I am the playleader in a committee run pre-school and we are about to open a 0-3 session with parents staying with 0-2.5year olds. I am booked on a Birth to Three training course in May and I am looking for some advice to avoid the pitfalls before we open on the following: We have some equipment suitable for 2+years but will need to purchase some other equipment/play equipment suitable for babies - can you recommend anything - I particular like the more wholesome stuff made of wood and natural products - should also mention storage is a problem. Are there any policies that I could use ie nappy changing, behavio…

Handing On Bttm Records
by Guest- 3 replies

This may have been raised before but to be honest I haven't had time to check so please bear with me. Our children, as in many preschools locally, start at age 2 1/2 or thereabouts, are 'on' BTTM for a short period and then go on to the FS while in the same setting. I've always understood all progress/development records to be the property of the parents, but wonder whether the BTTM records should go home once the child is on FS as there seems little point in keeping them. Any thoughts?

Free Birth To Threes Booklet

Birth to three matters is great - but you may want to read the booklet put out by Community Playthings. It covers Room layout and spaces planning, equipment selection, development, types of play and their importance, and some tips for the architect, if you have having a new/rebuild. You can read the booklet online Here or request a free copy Here. The booklet is 16 pages long, and if you are doing a training or something, you can get multiple copies. I would love to know what people think of it!

I have just logged on and read all your advice on implementing bttm. Alot of people have promised examples of planning they do with 0-3 and how their assesments link to bttm but no one has posted anything. I am a childminder with four children under three and am trying to look as ways of having more formal plans and assesement. At the moment I have themes for my older children and adapt them for the 0-3 but I do not record evidence of this. Any ideas or examples of plans that i could adapt for my setting. thanks

Assessing Children For Pre School

My Deputy has asked me to assess children for pre school. I have not been involved with pre school for a long time and feel we should be assessing them mainly on personal and social development. However, she has asked me to assess 2 or 3 children after school. I wondered if you could advise me as to what activities to set up in my classroom to get a good overall view of the child.
