We were lucky enough to receive some extra funding for our 2 yr olds and I have £140 left. Do you have anything in your setting that you feel is essential for 2 yr olds? We have new changing mat etc I am thinking more along the lines of resources.

Hello lovelies I'm having a total brain freeze! I'm planning some activities based around The Very Hungry Caterpillar as several of our 2 year olds love the story. I've got the extension activities for communication and language, literacy, physical / healthy body and expressive arts and design but I'm trying to think of some small world, and messy activities and I'm drawing blanks, I think I may be tired!!! Any suggestions would be very much appreciated xxx

Good morning. I am tasked with doing various training activities for our staff training day. A lot of it is sorted but I am planning to do an activity on effective observations. There will be about 20 people in a group and my idea to make it a bit more interesting is to set up three intriguing activities or tasks (not too much work) divide them up into small groups and then film them doing the activities. I can then project the film from my tablet onto the television and discuss what sort of things would be useful observations if this was being done on the children. I had a couple of questions for you all: 1) Do you think this would be an effective way to talk about …

Im taking over an under twos room and have been put in there to help 'sort it out' and was wondering if anyone can guide me with some samples of planning and how to approach it. I have previously only worked with preschool children, have attended some courses designed for unders twos but have to say apart from reinforcing sensory play I havent learnt much else! There seems to be very little about to support practitioners with under twos! Thank you

I am a room leader for the age group 18 months to 36 months. At the moment we run three hour funded sessions and for the last year have attempted to follow the routine of the pre school sessions which originally was children aged 24 months upwards. Now we have split into two rooms I feel the younger children from 18 months upwards struggle with the routine as they are so much younger and my question is, is it appropriate or necessary to do a whole group activity at the end of the session? My reason for this question is that when doing a whole group activity at the end such as a story or singing, children then know its the end of the session and begin to become distressed …

The preschool I have just joined is accepting two year olds ( new territory for me!) As part of their settling in process we are visiting them at home. I just wondered if anyone had particular resources they had found useful. I was thinking of taking bubbles, some finger puppets a large paper pad with some crayons pencils. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks Biker.

Hi there. This is my first post on any forum ever! I am very new to childminding and am slowly getting to grips with the obs, assessment and planning cycle. I need to spend some time on the area of Understanding the world - people and communities this week. I have a 2 and a half year old. Any one got any good ideas that will be age appropriate and not too time consuming? Many thanks in advance.

Pack away beds

I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what brand of beds do you use in your pack away settings for kids? I am considering buying a couple of stackable beds similar to those that are on Costcutters site http://www.costcuttersuk.com/cots__snoozemats/stackable_cot_beds_set_6/306220_p.html but need some to hear some reviews first. I also need maximum 2 but have no idea where to buy them individually. Your reviews and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

planning for own key children

Hi, I have been advised to have all staff in our toddler room plan for their own key children. We will still be doing an overall provision plan but each member of staff will use their medium term planning to do a weekly plan on helping the childrens next steps and interests. Has anyone got some kind of temlate that i could have a look at? All i can seem to find are templates best fit for preschool and in way to much detail. Thank you!
