Another thread has brought up this new fact sheet from Ofsted regarding giving medications to children in childcare. Sorry I can't do the fancy link. http://www.ofsted.go...tered-childcare It says, ' Over-the-counter medication The Statutory Framework allows you to give over-the-counter medication such as pain and fever relief or teething gel. However, you must get written permission beforehand from parents. And, you must follow the same recording procedures as those for prescribed medication. ' This guidance has been given to clarify the difference between 'prescribed' and 'prescription' drugs. ‘Prescribe’ and ‘prescription’ The Statutory Fram…

Now we have babies in our nursery I now have to deal with teething. I've had parents asking me what my policy is on giving calpol etc. Now obviously babies can't stay off if they are teething and they may need pain relief as and when, so it's hard to fill in a medical form. Some parents want to bring in a bottle that we give when they need it, but I'm not sure about this, as how do I know when it was last given at home etc etc.... I may give parents forms to fill in that say I gave calpol at ____ today - he may need more from _____ - what do others do? Aghhhh so much to think about and do and NO time to do it!

We have just been informed that as part of the two year old barrier fund we are to receive £1500!! To be spent on resources and training as well as other bits including attending social care meetings etc. So what do you all think is the best bit of kit for two year olds? we are very well resourced for 3-4 yrs and we have already thought about purchasing some sensory stuff and treasure baskets but as this age group are new to us we need help! We are also finding that many of those entitled to the funding are entering below expected developmental norms amongst other issues! So please tell me what would you buy with £1500 Thanks

Climbing equipment for under twos?

Hi all I have identified that we need to give the mobile children in our 0-2 room something that will challenge their physical skills; at present we have ride on toys and rockers but nothing for them to climb up, and some of them really want to climb! I have never worked with under two's in any other setting so haven't seen this done before, and was wondering if anybody uses any equipment they can recommend for this age range- a sturdy climbing frame or slide that can preferably be put away quite compactly as we don't have much storage space. Thanks in anticipation!

Hello all! My friend (an experienced early years practitioner in England) is looking to move to Wales and is researching the Welsh Foundation Stage, which appears to cater for children from 3 to 7. We can't find much specifically for under Threes, so I wondered if anyone could throw any light on this area for us, for example - is there any guidance at all?. Thanks Sue x

Hi...I am currently working towards EYPS. I have just completed my work experience in a 0 - 2years room in a full day care setting which follows the Montessori approach. I am the manager of a village nursery which is a 'pack away' setting for children aged 2 - pre-school. So working with very little people was a very different experience for me and I enjoyed it very much. I was interested in the Montessori activities that children were given and how they approached them. I was told that there are 26 steps to pouring and when I asked at what stage some of the children were at....the staff couldn't tell me. Does anyone know what the 26 stages of pouring a…

Hello all, I am just working on a template for our two year check and was wondering if you all just cover the three prime areas and cover the different areas of each e.g. under PD you would discuss both moving and handeling and health and self care and then have a section for next steps? Do parents then fill in their comment and then send it back to the setting and keep a copy for them selves and their health workers? hope this is clear.. would really appreciate some advice. Thank you
