   Space Themed Literacy Ideas

   For this half term our topic in my reception class is space. I can think of lots of creative activities for the topic like making rockets, planets out of papier mache etc but am stuck when it comes to CLL. We will have a few focus texts like Whatever Next! Here come the aliens, Aliens love underpants and non fiction information books. I am planning on sharing these with the children but at the moment my mind has gone blank when thinking about small group activities (adult led) for literacy related to these books. I tend to have just over an hour in the morning twice a week for CLL when myself or my TA will do group work whilst the other is doing observations or sup…

   Hi all I have been reading through alot of old threads and I know I am asking for similar help, but I have an interview and I need to do a focused activity of my choosing with a small group of reception children. I also have to carry out a 10 min observation. I have never done long obs before and was wondering what I need to do in them. Is it a step by step account of what the child has said and done or is it more of a minute by minute. Also I have a few ideas for the activity but if anyone has a good activity they would like to share I would greatly appreciate it. Many Thanks

   Hi everyone, I am trying to find out what is the most common practice in other Reception classes for Adult led work. I am working with a new job share partner and we are each doing a different Literacy objective in our half of the week (and the same for PSRN) which means we each work with four groups of children for Literacy and again for Numeracy. I am a bit worried that this is too much and think we should be doing only one Literacy objective across the whole week and the same for Numeracy, thereby freeing up more time for child initiated learning.    Hey everyone!! Happy New Year before I start. I have been planning as topic on a few of the Elmer stories and am drying up with fun ideas. I have found a few on here and do have a few of my own but I need some new insproation. I have 'Elmer', 'Elmer and Wilbur', 'Elmer and the stranger', 'Elmer and Rose', 'Elmer and Grandpa Eldo' and a few more.    Hi folks, Hope you are all settled back in! I have been asked by my head to provide a percentage of children who are secure at phase 2 of L&S. We have completed an assessment sheet devised from the L&S book, but I have a question - how secure is secure?! The assessment comprises of: Grapheme recognition Oral blending tasks (I say m-a-n, they tell me the word I'm saying - approx 10 words) Segmenting tasks (They tell me how to spell 'jam', 'mint' etc. Lots of chn saying 'mit' for mint of 'sad' for sand - is this a problem?)
