Lesson Observation

I'm being observed for a job in reception and I was wondering if anyone had any great ideas for what I could do? I'm struggling because it's only a half hour slot and although they obviously can't sit for all that time finding a whole class carpet time and then some sort of adult led activity for afterwards is very difficult in such a short time. I can do it about anything, but I was thinking some sort of literacy/communication skills focus would be good. I need a whole class part (I was thinking 10 minutes, does this sound right to experienced reception teachers out there?) and then an adult led activity/good independent activities to engage the children. I have…

However he is very quiet and will not put himself forward until he is VERY sure of the situation. I have been doing nursery rhymes and have explored rhyming words in as many different ways as I can think of but my Reception children are still stuggling to hear the rhyming words let alone generate their own rhyming strings. does anyone have any ideas that they have used to help with this? Any ideas would be greatfully received as I have felt like I have been banging my head against a brick wall this week! With thanks in anticipation of your help. Helen

De-constructed Role Play
by Guest- 3 replies

We have recently deconstructed our role play area, and when I started the project I was really excited about it - now its all going wrong and I need to fix it but I don't know how!!! We resourced it with cardboard boxes, tubes, crates, material, pegs and a range of dressing up clothes, it also has clipboards and cameras In there too. So together we established the rules and we did a lot of modelling. We add resources according to their interests, so we have had knights resources, wizard resources, dinosaurs, tills and money. BUT every time it ends in fighting, with cardboard boxes being destroyed, lots of rolling around and screaming, and lots of arguing because the…

Afternoon everyone, I really need some help to locate a document that I came upon by accident on the internet and now I cant find it and its not in my 'history'!! Everyweek my class and I have a board meeting where we share the things we would like to be doing next week - this document showed which questions you could ask to scaffold the learning and to encourage children to think a little more out of the box. It also gave a list of questions that you could ask during times when children were really engaged in an activity so that you could extend the learning. I have a feeling it was from Ireland although I'm not sure. talk about a challenge on a Sunday af…

Hello all, Has anyone ever used the lovely text Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers in their Reception classroom? I have a lesson obs next week and have decided to come away from the normal 'safe' texts and try something new! I thought we'd try modelled/shared writing for the lesson obs....and by modelled/shared writing, I mean collecting and introducing new vocab at this time of year. It would be me scribing the collected words! I'm sorted for my focus group activity, I'm going to introduce the word 'weird' and teach its meaning as this could be frequent use word which would benefit the children later in their writing, but I need some help with child initated acti…
