Hello! After a fab week exploring halloween, I spoke to my class (reception) on Friday about what they wanted to do this week - the children have been obsessed with Dr Who this week (the baddies like halloween i think!) so I want to go with this more but they all want to do some work on fireworks too! I am being observed tuesday so my question is... Do any of you wonderful people know how on earth I can link Dr Who and Fireworks into a WOW lesson starter? Many Thanks in advance!! Emie

Outside Area Wish List
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi all, am very excited as have been told that the governors at school have decided to give me a budget of up to £1000 to revamp my outside area (without me even asking!) I have quite a small space which has in it a sandpit, shed which I use for role play, a water tray a pebble fountain, a slope covered in spongy tarmac so am already fairly well off. I'm not going to grumble however at some money to revamp the area and it is looking pretty tired after it was done about 6 years ago. So my question is this what would be on your wish list for your outside area which would give it the wow factor? or what has been the most successful addition to your outside area? The area is…

Hi all, I'm trying to vamp up my very small area of construction. (Year 1) The children LOVE going in there (especially the boys of course). They tend to use the same things like K'nex.. and make the same things ~ Cars.. I am making (hopefully) the are more exciting.. for example Model of the week (Picture of the Child goes on the wall with their model) Just wondering what challenges do you set for your class? Does anyone have any pictures of their construction area that the wouldn't mind sharing (cheeky request) We have: LEGO, CONSTRUCTOR, LASY, K'NEX, WOODEN BUILDING BLOCKS, WACKY MACHINES. Thanks in advance... as i know i can always rely on FSF forum …

Base Line Assessments
by Guest- 4 replies

Ok - I have read lots of threads and still not sure I know if I'm doing my baseline assessent correctly. I've been told Ofsted would want to know how many (%) are working at 30-50 or 40-60 mths in each area. Do you start looking at the age in mths of a particular child, then workout what age band they fall into developmentqally mostly and if that matched their chronological age. SO my younger Reception chn who just turned 4 would mostly be devp/secure in 30-50 and emerging 40-60, and my 5yr olds would be mostly expected to be secure 30-50 and developing/secure 40-60. Am I also correct I'd expect most chn to come in on the EYFSP around 2-3 scale points per area at be…

Outdoor Environment
by Guest- 5 replies

Hello! I hope everyone is having a fantastic half term! We have just been lucky enough to get funding for a new garden and some wonderful new outdoor equipment including a new writing table and water-resistant mat and cushions for a reading area (so exicted!!) As we now have a lovely environment I want the children to get the most out of it. We are a 1 form entry school and we only have access to the outdoor environment through the main parents door, there is access from the nursery classroom but this is not accessible for reception so a 'free flow' approach is going to be hard to manage. Currently we take a group of children outside in each activity session h…

Which movements do you do for this? I know you have to squeeze, roll, flatten and pinch but does anyone have a particular routine or do you just make it up as you go along? Thank you for any responses in advance.

Hi Folks, Is the current National Curriculum stiil available or is it about to undergo a rejig/reprint? And is it the same thing as the Primary Strategies? Is it possible to get a hard copy rather than having to download it? And....I know APP stands for Assessing Pupil progress but is there a document I can get that explains all about it and if so, where from? Just thinking about dipping my toes into KS1 after EYFS. Many thanks.

Hi, We have just started working as an Early Years unit. There are two teachers (Reception and Nursery) and two teaching Assistants. We are wanting to set up an effective key worker system for all the children and I know some schools/ settings have specific key worker activites going on during the day. Can someone please help with some ideas and examples of how this works and fits into the day? Thank you
