I am new to being an Early Years Co-ordinator and I am just setting up a file. There was not one previously in this setting. I have been asked to set one up with Ofsted approaching. Any advice would be VERY grateful, I feel a little in the dark about it all. Many thanks x

I think I read somewhere that children's levels of attainment on profile points should not be used used as targets for performance management. Does anyone know where I may have seen this or am I just making it up? Thanks.

Being Observd During Fre Flow
by Guest- 5 replies

Please help - I am being observed with on Thursday with my mixed recepion and year 1 class. My head wants to see a free flow activity session, where mmy TA and I are doing obervations. Free flow is my weakness as I not sure how I should best be suporting the children. We are doing the tiger who came to tea in literacy and shapes in numeracy. Our topic is all about me. What kinds of activities would you have to make this an 'outstanding' lesson (though good would also be good!!) Would you have question cards out, and what would you expect the adults to do? Sorry for all the questions but I have never had an observation like this before!

Hi all, We currently plan on separate sheets for focused activities and continuous provision. Both sheets are similiar with the learning objectives down the left handside split into the areas of learning, then the activities, children and look listen and note in the middle column and evaluation on the rightside. Also there is space at the bottom for individual needs etc.(adapted for plans that Catma very kindly shared a couple of years ago (thank you!)) We have recently had a good with outstanding features OFSTED and they seemed happy with this. However, I wonder whether we are making more work for ourselves by doing it on 2 sheets. Should we just add the enhancements …

Hi, this might sound a very silly question to lots of you - I'm a bit lost. I've just moved to Reception from Nursery - should I be completing the eprofile on the children in my class? When I asked the old reception teacher she said, you can do it when you want - I'm not really sure - can anyone help? Does anyone teach in Sefton area - would you be willing to let me come and observe/pick your brains? Thanks

Hi I've finally finished the long term plans for my reception class. I'll be starting back in Jan after maternity leave. Would you knid people have a look and let me know what you think. All feedback gratefully recieved. We plan to have continuous provision sheets adapted from very kind person on here and the requested sheets from LA to go alongside them, the learing intentions will be highlighted based on obs of children and their interests. To go with these we will have posters for classroom helpers with appropriate vocab and questions and suggested activities and resources for each area alongside request sheets from children. The short term plans will reflect …

Space Saving Ideas
by Guest- 1 reply

Hello ladies! I'm after a few ideas, or a bit of advice. I'm in reception, and have always been blessed with a rather large classroom. However, as our role rises, I'm set to lose half my room to make way for a new classroom. Fort the time being, I now have a very small room, with 30 kids and two with very challenging behaviour. I inherited a lot of furniture, which I'm hoping to stash somewhere.... :-p However, I was wondering whether people had any great ideas in terms of setting up as many areas as possible in such a small space. I will be fully carpeted, so sand, water, and creative will be very messy! Any advice would be gratefully received …

Hi, I know this has come up as a thread a number of times but I was wondering if anyone would share how they show in their planning that they are catering for individual needs. I was going to attempt doing individual plans which are proving successful for some on here and look brill but I'm already drowning under all the paper work and I just don't know if it is really manageable without giving up all my family time?? We have previously carried out a long observation on each child per half term and then followed this up the following week with an activity/enhancement/adult support etc to support their next steps. However, this did not provide a individual next step for …

Behaviour Management In Reception

Hello All, I have decided to introduce a 'happy sun' and a 'sad cloud' to my reception classroom. This is really for the benefit of just a few select children who are proving to be very challenging. The system goes: All children have a picture of their face on the sun. If they refuse to do something or are rude etc they go on the sad cloud. They immediately have an opportunity to be removed from it by doing what was asked of them/ redeeming their behaviour. If they choose not to or are put on the cloud twice on one day they will be sent to the other reception teacher. I am just a little concerned as after only just introducing it this afternoon I have a…

Sorry for a moan but Im finding it so hard to get everything done ! I teach Reception and Y1 and at the moment Im under pressure to get my on entry cohort profile completed which is taking ages. Then I need to start scoring the children for the EYFSP. Parents evening soon which needs preparing for and I need to be able to tell the parents what progress the Y1s have made. On top of all the planning and the fun bits like making resources and preparing the classroom and outside areas. And collating everything for learning journeys ! Oh and targets, I keep putting off doing the targets (hate them !) PPA time just goes by in a flash! I know KS2 teachers have …
