New To Reception! Help Please!
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi everyone, I have been teaching for a few years now but been in juniors. I did a 6 week teaching post in reception but just followed their set routine previously. I have asked to change to reception as I really want to be there. But I feel a bit lost and am worried about next year, I just don't want to look like I know nothing with the other reception teacher and nursery teachers! What do you do in your 'average' day - I know that most days aren't average but want to get a feel of what others do. Thank you so much in advance!

Risk Assessment

Sorry to sound dim! I know that childminders and preschools need risk assessments for everything in the child's indoor environment e.g. what the risks are of using the bikes, how do we minimise the risks, check the temperature of the taps etc etc. Do Reception classes need a really written down comprehensive risk assessment too? thanks

Eyfs Profile Whole Class Tracking
by Guest- 11 replies

Hello! I hope someone can help - Google can't find what I am looking for! I'm looking for an excel workbook where I can have a sheet for each section of the EYFSP with the ELGs on the top row and a column on the left with the names of the children in my class. We are in the middle of changing systems at school and I want to have a whole class overview of my class so I can track progress this term and plan next steps. I have found word ones but want an excel one so I can sort the data. Does anyone have one? I have started to create one but am getting achy fingers from cut & paste of the ELGs into excel!!!

hello, can anyone suggest where I can buy signs (i.e number lines etc) to put in the outside area? I have tried printing and laminating my own but they don't last long in the weather! I have found a website but the resources seem very expensive. Thank you very much

Hi everyone, I hope this doesn't sound like a really stupid question but what do you actually write in your evaluation box on your focused activity planning? Do you evaluate your teaching/effectiveness of the activity or the children's learning or both? I only ask as I tend to do both but then end up writing about the children's learning 3 times! I wonder if it would be better to do a general evalution of teaching and activity and next steps, then keep the specifics of which children did well, less well etc to the seperate sheet that we record this on during the activity? Just interested to hear what other do as I'm trying to avoid writing anything twice! Thanks Green…

Year R/1 Summer Dip
by Guest- 4 replies

I wonder whether anyone has experienced the summer dip as my class has this year. I had a third of my class being able to write sentence independently by the end of the year, but now in year 1 they cannot even write CVC words. They were working on Letters and Sounds Phase 4 and starting to use this in their writing - we did a lot of changing stories to make them our own or writing diaries of Ted Bear or bean planting as well as writing in role play areas. The Year 1 teacher is now tearing out her hair as even this group cannot write CVC words or think up rhyming strings. Looking at their books I would not have thought this was the same group of children. She does not sugg…

General Pre School Help
by Guest- 10 replies

Hi. This is my first ever post!!!!! I have recently become the manager of a pre school after being a deputy there for a couple of years. We have role swapped - the manager wanted to be deputy and I wanted (ha ha!) to be manager. (Should of remembered the workload from when I owned my out of school club!) Looking for advice on everything and anything. I feel we are quite a structured, rigid setting and whilst this does work for us and has done for many years it is not up to date with current thinking - any information on how pre school daily routines are timed would be greatly appreciated. We are open 9-12 Monday to Friday. We currently have formal registratio…
