Hi I'm being observed soon on my RWI session in reception. Although I like the programme the chn are sitting too long I think. By my obsv chn will know m.a.s.d.t and i.n.p.g. Thought about intro letter O really quickly, then air write, then leave any writing until I send chn off into groups and I'll keep the more able. Thought the less able could use play dough to make the letters Another group could have magnetic letters and green word cards and have to make the green words using the letters and could try and make another word up Another group could do another pre writing skill such as cutting out, or finger painting spirals or could match pictures to corr…

Would the reception teachers out there mind telling me what reading scheme they use? Based upon the fact that ours are ancient and none progressive at the moment we are looking to get a new scheme. Any recommendations? In the meantime I thought that I could send home posters with parental instructions for the children and parents to discuss, has anyone done anything like this in their setting. Thanks in advance for any advice, Nicky XX

Target Setting In Reception
by Guest- 8 replies

I wonder if anyone can help. My school is wanting reception to start sharing literacy and numeracy targets with our children in a similar way to the rest of the school. The Head argues that children should be aware of their what they need to accomplish next, and it will provide continunity for the children as they progress through the school. The reception team have been asked to suggest methods of how we could start to share targets with our children, but we are a bit stumped. I personally don't really approve of this idea, as the children are so young and I don't feel that target setting in this manner is appropriate. However, we have been told that we have no choi…

Hi, Just wondering if there's anyone who uses the high-scope curriculum and routine? Is it possible to learning about it and impliment it properly through the publications or is the training essential to make it work properly? I have (loosely) based my routine on the high-scope and it works really wel. Has anyone done the training and ... how much does it cost? Green Hippo x

Eyfs Data And Nc Levels
by Guest- 3 replies

My friend is being asked to do assessment for her Year One class so that data for the beginning of the year can be put into the school tracker in order to demonstrate progress across the year. She is finding it very difficult especially in maths to do this. What do other schools do? Obviously she has the end of EYFS scale points as they stand but not NC levels. It seems too early to be doing this but the head wants data in the tracker. The rest of the school are doing assessments now. Any advice welcome - Thanks.

Hi all, I am new to reception and I am struggling on outdoor provision due to staff numbers. Do you let children have access outdoor all day or do you just have certain times? Does anyone know what the guidelines are for amount of time the children have to be out are? Or what the supervision should be? Also, what is Ofsted's opinion on it? Thanks so much
