Hi everyone, Well I haven't been on here for nearly 2 years I am ashamed to say!!! Went on maternity, had a lovely little boy and now have returned to work full time and don't ever seem to have a spare second. Feel a little out of touch to tell you the truth. I was just hoping that somone might be able to help me with learning journeys. How do you organise yours? Folder/books? Do you split them up into areas of learning? Any help would be much appreciated. Hoping to have a big change around in the hols. x

Last term we used a grid to record for different areas of learning when a child had aksed an adult for a resource to support their play, when an adult introduced a resource to support childrens play or to record that we thought a certain resource or activity would support learning and when possible it could be implimented. I'm not sure how successful this was and am interested in hearing how everyone is achieving this. Thanks Hannan

Hi all, I am new here. Please can you help me with some activity ideas. We are doing our hands and I was wandering if you could give me some literacy ideas linked with using our hands, e.g. hand painting, name writing in sand etc. Thank you in advance. Together xxx

I am just returning to my reception class and role as EYFS leader after a year off on maternity leave. A few things have changed while I've been away and one of them is the use of a new progress toolkit which I believe is similar to progress matters. This assessment toolkit is being used as well as the profile and I am not sure if it is necessary to do both. The toolkit assesses against development matters statements, shows if they are secure, emerging or developing. It looks good in Nursery but do I need to do it as well as the profile? I know the profile is statutory and previously I filled it in 3 times a year but it seems a lot to fill in the assessment toolki…

Hi I'm posting to ask a question to help my friend. Her daughter is due to start school next week and still has to wear pull ups as she has medical issues with pooing. She is very tiny and very young and the doctor and consultant are involved and they both say she shouldn't start school yet but she is however very bright and ready for school in all other ways. My friend was desperately hoping that the issue would be resolved and has spent the summer in desperation trying to potty train her in vain and is now in a real panic about her starting school next week. On approaching the school for advice this week my friend met with a very frosty reception they have been less tha…

Hi all! Just preparing and thinking of some new ideas for September. One of the things that bugged me last year was that I was constantly having to take/hold my camera and sticky labels and pen around with me all the time, which when playing on the carpet with the children I often tended to leave them on the floor next to me (not ideal when children stand on them!) or I'd leave them on the side and then would have to go and get the camera/sticky labels and the moment I wanted to catch would have been lost/missed. This was also the same with being outdoors. So I thought how great would it be to have a pouch/apron with pockets type thing to have the camera, sticky l…

Outdoor Digging Area
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi, We currently have a split level area made from sleepers. Up until now we have had it filled with bark. However, we noticed that the children have enjoyed moving the bark and digging big holes at the side of this area. I just wondered what people had success with in their digging areas. I was thinking of having sand on one level and gravel on the other - however these would become mixed over time. Does anyone else have any ideas and I am presuming we would need to purchase play sand for this and not builders/merchants sand? Your advice and previous experiences would be most appreciated!
