Has all, We have recently purchased a Beat Baby and a couple of books for our Reception class and I was just wondering if any of you have used them before. Does anyone have any advice or top tips for their use? We haven't used them before so any help given would be much appreciated! Thanks, Ffydd

New To The Forum :)

Hello all I am new to the forum and thought I would introduce myself. I have just completed a PGCE in July 2010 and I have secured a job as a Reception teacher starting on 1st Sept. I am already familiar with the school as I completed one of my placements there in Yr1. I am not an early years specialist but I am really looking forward to getting my teeth into this role. The school is large (4 form entry) and the planning is shared between a strong team of teachers. As the start of school tem approaches I am trying to think of settling in activites for the children which will give opportunites to carry out baseline assessments. The intake is staggered over 2 weeks …

Handing Planning In!

Hi all I need to know where we stand on handing planning in for the Head to see. I was agast to hear our Head say she thinks she might be asking to see planning next term as she feels that planning has 'gone to pot!' Don't know where to start to look on the Union website. Wanted a feel on other people's thoughts so I can be armed once staff hear about it. As the Deputy I am in a position to hopefully come up with a better solution! I had heard that planning is personal to us and might go against the unions but like I say not sure where to look! Please can I have your help! Thanks Gem

Year 1 Books

Helloo, having a clearout and have books for sale! Don't think I'm being rude posting on here, but I know how expensive these books can be for new teachers. I have finally left teaching in schools and gone back to working in a private nursery (as a teacher) and I love it! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Developing-Numer...=item4aadde4c2c I also have: 100 Literacy Framework Lessons + CD Year 3 100 Maths Framework Lessons + CD Year 4 ...and quite a few more, older, but still full of useful ideas and activities. Mainly rec/year1. Handy on those NQT days when the first flush of enthusiasm begins to wear off... I will be listing them on ebay soon, but PM me if you are inte…

I am asking this out of curiosity really and to glean some opinions. I've put it in this forum as it relates to Reception age children. As is often the case, for perfectly ordinary reasons, we have a handful of children who are in a pre school setting not a school setting for their reception year. They will go into a year one class in September when they become statutory school age. I have to engage with the settings to moderate their judgements and I do find I am worrying each year that the children I have seen so far generally do not seem to have the same skill set for CLLD especially LSL/reading e.g. phonic decoding, phoneme grapheme correspondence, comprehens…

Managing The Outside Environment

Hi Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction into ways that they manage the outside area? We have 60 children in September split across 2 classrooms, a middle craft area and an outside area. Previously used there's been a band system, ie so many bands for each class (has it's negatives), complete free flow (again negatives). Trying to come up with a system that allows child initiated play, plus adult guided time but also means that everyone gets outside provision and not just the more active children who manage to rush out their first! I've not done reception for a while. Been in year 2 and managed my own nursery. So just want to get it right! I'm sure …

Hi My school is going to be introducing literacy based around Pie Corbett methods. Could any one suggest some good websites or books that I could use to read up on this? The school has some books for use further up the school but we are looking for information on using this method in the foundaiton stage. Thanks
