Pips Reception Results Query
by Guest- 7 replies

Hi, we all do the PIPS assessments at our school - for every year group - and I do think they are a good idea. Last year we looked at the R end of year PIPS scores and were very disappointed. High fliers had underachieved and lots of children had two minuses. So this year we really targeted focus groups for Lit/ Num sessions and also planned differently for more able/ less able children. We have really gone to town on personal learning for those groups... BUT... Just got the results back for this year's children and they are poor again. Too many high fliers have just achieved an 'average' on the value added and some children (low ability) have two minuses. S…

Numicon

Hello everyone. My school has recently decided that 'using and applying numbers/maths' is a key area of development throughout our whole school which is Reception to Year 4. The year 4 teacher went on a Numicon course and thought it was great so we will be implementing this into our school as of September. The year 4 teacher has been great and talked about the resources etc however she does not have a good understanding of the EYFS so its very hard to ask her advice. I was just wondering if anyone on here uses it and how you do so. I am unsure whether to use it as a main basis for PSRN, for just one session a week or just have a Numicon station in my classroom??? …

Hello everyone I am thinking about playing music on CDs for different parts of the day. For example: tidy up time, maths time etc. Has anyone done this? Has anyone got any ideas of what music to play? I thought this might be better to encourage to think for themselves and also saves my voice. Brownie x

Psrn Planning
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi guys, I bet everyone is ready for the holidays. I am. From September onwards we have been asked (by management) to do our PSRN planning in a bit more detail. We tend to just do the objective and a small breakdown of the lesson that suits us. They however want it in more detail. Can anyone kindly let me see their weekly lesson template? (an example of what they do for the week and how they present it in their file) I would be sooo grateful. Thanks

Numbers And Patterns

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone was using the DCSF document 'numbers and patterns: laying the foundations in mathmatics'. I'm hoping someone would be able to share how they use this document to support their planning of PSRN and whether you teach in the different phases, similarly to phonics and the 'letters and sounds' document. Hope someone can help me! Tinky

Hi I will be teaching a mixed class in September for the first time (FS2/Y1) and I am currently trying to find the best planning formats. If anyone has got any examples of good planning formats I could look at or know where I may be able to find some I would appreciate it. I am also trying to work out my timetable if anyone has any examples for FS2, Y1 or a mixed FS2/Y1 class that would be great as a starting point to set out my day. Thanks

Write Dance, What Do You Think?
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi I have 2 children coming from a special school pre school in September who will have 1-1 support. They have both gone through the write dance pre school 'scheme' so in the interests of inclusion and building on successes I ordered the write dance for 4-8 yuear olds with the idea that I could get the whole class involved and it would help everyone's pencil control. On reading it though it seems really weird and I wondered if anyone has used it with reception and what they thought of it as i just can't see myself doing it! deb

Average Points?
by Guest- 5 replies

I've been asked to teach Reception in September after a colleague has been taken ill. I'm really looking forward to it (although original plan had been for me to stay in Year 1 and had organised myself for it). I'm getting my head around the planning and all seems fine but have been told by the HT that the average child will only achieve 6 ELGs across each scale. Is this true? When I last taught Reception it was on the old ELGs but most children got 8's. A 6 seems low(ish) in my opinion - shouldn't I be aiming higher esp when I know what is demanded in Year 1? Anyone else heard of this?
