Hi everyone, Just wondered if anyone had any ideas for a guided writing session for reception children to last for about 15 minutes as beginning observed. Also does anyone have any ideas for a interactive calculating activity that involves all children for about 10 minutes. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Looking for some inspiration. Thanks in advance

Hi I am new to reception this year from Y2 and when I had my performance management meeting with our new head in september was given a target of getting 85% of my children to 6 points for CLL and PSRN. I thought nothing of it as am used to having similar targets as a Y2 teacher. As it is this target will be just about achieved but when I had my meeting with my Early Years adviser last week she was aghast that I had such a target and found the relevent bit in EYFS documents to support that it shouldn't happen. I just wondered how widespread it was or is it just me and now I don't quite know what to do about it. Would welcome your thoughts Deb

Interview Help!

Hi guys, I've been asked to teach a class of 'lively' reception children a 10-15 minute maths session in area of my choice but linked to scale points 5 and 6. I think it would be easier to do calculation, scale points 5 and 6 are to do with understanding that subtraction menas taking away and being able to use vocabulary assosicated with subtraction. My initial thought was that I could do ten in the bed. I could start off by reading Ten in the Bed by Penny Dale and I could take a duvet into the school and get children out to the front to act out the story/song - making the focus one less than, how many have we got left etc. What do you think about this? It is a…

Parents Not Happy About Starting Part Time
by Guest Pebble123- 17 replies

Hope someone can help or reassure me I sent out letters recently to the parents of children in Sept to tell them that they would be starting part time-either a week of mornings followed by a week of afternoons or vice versa. They will all experience lunch time in the 2nd week. They could then all come full time (unless they were not ready.) A group of parents are very unhappy and wanted them to start full time straight away We always start them part time as we find that they find a whole day very tiring and it gives us a smaller group to get to know, observe etc. Can anyone point me in the direction of any evidence that this is what most schools do and that…

Reception Classroom Risk Assessment
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi all, I may have put this in the wrong section so apologies if I have. I have been asked by my head to provide a risk assessment for my classroom and all the equipment in it and I just don't know where to start. I have a risk assessment for my outside area but didn't know that it was a requirement for the classroom too. Does anyone have a completed one for their classroom that I can look at and adapt? We are expecting the phonecall any minute now and I am up to my eyes in paperwork so I would be very grateful of anything that would speed up the job! Hi everyone! The good news is I have a job in Foundation for September. Have just finished my final teaching practice in Foundation and am now very aware that I have lots of obs of children taking part in adult led activities but just haven’t had chance to observe child initiated because I have spent a lot of my time leading adult led activities over the day. Does anyone have any really good systems that allow all children to do some adult led activities but still allow time for me to observe? When I am working with focus groups of children, the other children are taking part in child initiated play. I’m sure I will be on here a lot more now I am free of uni wo…
