Performance Management

Hi, My school is about to start the yearly performance management observations. I was wondering if your Head/SMT uses a different pro forma for Early Years observations? Previously I have always been observed by my headteacher and he uses the same sheet he uses for the rest of the school, e.g. formal, whole-class lesson observation including details of the starter/introduction, group activties and plenary. This is never really relevant for the way we teach in Reception. I have often found myself planning a specific lesson that he is able to observe, rather than the usual freeflow, small group activites and continuous provision we provide the rest of the time. …

The Pond / Fishing

Hi I've had a request for this (short) half terms roleplay area to be a fishing area (I'm linking to minibeasts through 'The Pond'.) Has anyone got any new ideas- particularly for child choice PSED???? We will have tadpoles and a small tray of pond water to explore (diving beetles etc hopefully!) What would you offer for child choice? I try to offer a new activity either indoors or outdoors for each AOL. I've attatched a sample of my CC planning! Many thanks- I'm almost brain strained now; should probably go to bed! Rach 2.5.11_continuous_provision.doc

I am trying to put togther a sheet of information about playdough. I intend to do a few of our activities but want to start with playdough. I want to include -a brief statement about why we offer it -concepts/langauge -the role of the adult -how to do an observation of a child at the activity (we already have a format for observations by helpers or volunteers) If you have something along these lines would anyone mind sharing it? Thanks

Today i had an observation from our new head and it went disastrously and spectacularly wrong! I know I planned too much focused work to start with and because the came for one hour i went back into KS1- well any way. However, on top of all that she was not too happy with some of the activities provided and said 'children were wandering around aimlessly!' well some of them probably were. Please help me. What sort of daily activities do you plan that ENGAGE your children? We had the writing table- writing fact books, she liked that, the listening center/book area- no one went to it and they never do. We have changed the area so many times to try e.g. a tent in there, sorte…

Hello everyone! Now I know this has been talked about lots on here but I feel I really do need some and would very much appreciate some current and up to date advice on what all of you are doing in your reception classes. I'm an NQT and the only reception teacher and have changed my timetable, etc quite a few times already but still don't feel it is quite right. I have a full time TA and 15 children in my class. I'm struggling to understand and organise my week and days to ensure I have the appropiate balance of adult led and child initiated activities and also ensuring that myself and my TA are involved in and supporting/observing child initiated play. I know th…

Just had the idea of spending 3 days celebrating the Royal Wedding. Has anybody got any plans in their setting? I'm thinking wedding invitations, place name cards, dressing up Kibgs and Queens, making crowns and tiaras, decorating cakes, bringing in wedding photos old and new etc
