Hello, I hope some of you may have some ideas to help coz im losing the plot! hehe I've got 19 very lively boys and 10 girls in my Reception class and i am running out of things for them to do, especially in the current rainy weather conditions. I have been in Reception for 5 years, but have not had such a high percentage of boys before. I'm trying all the designs in construction areas, and the outside area as much as possiible. (I know its meant to be all of the time...its is almost all of the time). They just charge around the Reception area like headless chickens with some adults. I'm getting them to choose their activities. I could keep all of them afirly…

I am having one of thoses brain dead moments could any one help? i am doing superheroes at the moment and thought it would be nice to look at roy lichtenstein's art work as his work is based on comics and its big, bright and bold. i have also identified the need to expand childrens creativity in art. I put all sorts of paint and brushes and printing implements out and they always choose the paint brush and poster paint as this is safe for them! has anyone looked at this artist with reception before and does anyone have any ideas of how i could approach this? thank you in advance Emma

Hi, this is my first post here and i know this has been asked hundreds of times already but i wonder if anyone teaching a mixed rec/yr1 class could post their 'normal, on a good day' routine. I have 19 reception and 6 year 1s and some weeks i feel like i get it right but at the moment it just seems like i can't get the mix right and am beginning to doubt myself. At the moment i have challenges in our continuous provision areas called busy bee jobs that i ask the year 1 chn to complete each week (some so, some don't) and also open this to reception which they really enjoy. I have tried so many ways of setting out the day that now i've confused myself but at present we …

Hi sorry if this has already been said and i have missed the thread. I have just taken over as early years leader and both myself and the other reception teacher are new to the school. We have been using my old planning proforma for the last term but it doesnt seem to be working for the other reception teacher. I was wondering if anyone could upload there planning proformas so I could have a look and see how to change the one we are using. Thanks Weekly_Plan.doc

What Is A Complex Word?
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi I work in the EY's and one of the profile points relating to writing is for children to write simple and complex words. I understand simple words to be regular, CVC words, but just wondered what your thoughts were for complex words? Would this be spelling tricky words, writing longer words? Many thanks!

Water Play In Winter
by Guest- 3 replies

Just wonder what will count as water play at the moment. A couple of weeks ago when it was raining every day we put lots of containers in the empty water tray and the children placed these around the area to catch the rain. We also drew round puddles with chalk and watched to see if the puddles got smaller or bigger. We dropped powder paint into the puddles and looked at the colours mixing. Last week it was dry, but really cold. We had water in the water tray and the guttering etc. but of course the water went onto the playground and froze! The area then became dangerous - its our infant playground at dinner time. What does everyone else do?

Hello, I have been using Letters and Sounds for the past term and after watching an example lesson have realised that I need a much more active and fun teaching style for my phonics sessions. It would be really helpful if you could share your favourite phonics game/activity with me to build on what I am already doing. Thank you
