Does anyone have a mobile phone policy for Nursery? We have many students and work experience pupils through ours and especially in the current climate, I was wonderring if a mobile phone policy would be good, especially with Ofsted looming.

This doc is of interest, particularly for those who have complained of being graded by their LA for their moderation outcomes and processes after a visit. P13 "Some local authorities continue to 'grade' moderation practice as part of the external visit. Practitioners' judgements are either accurate and in line with national exemplification or they are not, in which case additional training and consideration should take place. There are no gradations of accuracy, and this practice can confuse the process of moderation unnecessarily." Cx http://orderline.qcda.gov.uk/GEMPDF/144595...ile_2009-10.pdf

Hey guys, Just wanted to get your opinion on this matter... I have been informed that the children within my class (Nursery) have to be taught the calculation side of things before learning numbers for counting, labels for counting and so on... I just cannot comprehend how a child is supposed to know what 1plus 1 is if they don't even know what number one is? Am i being really lame here or i am i correct to question this?

Assessing Creativity

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help us. We are finding it difficult to assess or plan for Profile point 3 in Creative Development (Tries to capture experiences, using a variety of different media) which is stopping us from awarding the Early Learning Goals. Can anyone give us any examples of the evidence they have collected to award this point. Not sure if we are reading too much into it or whether our children are just not very creative. Thanks Lorraine

Odd Thing

We opened on monday in our new setting, having had a bit of hassle getting our Ofsted certificate which they finally sent by email in the afternoon on friday. So I thought that was all sorted out until I had a phonecall today from the lady who said she had been given the job of doing our inspection in the old setting! Fortunately she hadn't actual gone there or she might have been in a worse mood! She said we now needed to phone up and cancel the old certificate (which nobody mentioned before and I have spoken to Ofsted about 10 times in the last week!). My question is, will she come to the new setting now, even though we have only been there for a week and only open f…

Letters And Sounds/handwriting

Hello I have just started a new job at a different school and feel like I'm starting all over again! :0( Does anybody know if you are suppposed to teach the children to write letters in the order as in Phase 2 phonics? It is just at my old school we taught curly caterpillar letters, long ladder and one-armed robot letters etc and did this as a seperate Penpals session, seperately to phonics. (In phonics we concentrated on letters and sounds and I would model the new sound on the board and teach them to write in the air and eventually with whiteboards.) Many Thanks!
