Nursery And Reception Assessments
by Guest- 1 reply

Hi, I am responsible for overseeing a nursery class and a reception class. We are trying to formulate some kind of progress sheet / assessment which can be used for the 2 years children are with us. We obviously use FSP in reception - is this enough or should there be more? And what can we use in nursery? We have tried creating sheets using development matters but these seem to turn into 16 pages of tick sheets - not good when there are 50 nursery children. Basically - what do you use and are OFSTED happy with it?!

Hi all, I'm just wondering how you show progress from nursery to reception? Do you use the profile points? The months in the EYFS? Any online recommendations? Thanks in advance for your help! CLouise

Hello everyone After many years of slumming it in a grotty community centre we are hoping to move next April. I just phoned Ofsted to inform them and find out what I need to do and they have told me that despite the only change being the premises (staff and I will stay the the same, I am the manager and owner) we will have to apply for a completely new registration. I have downloaded the forms I need to complete and one is 24 pages, one is 26 pages and the health declaration is 16 pages! Does anyone know if this is normal practice for Ofsted? I naively thought they would come and visit me and look at the building and give approval (or not!). I did expect to complete…

Maths With A Christmas Theme?
by Guest- 8 replies

Hello everyone, Does anyone have any fun and stimulating ideas for incorporating maths into a Christmas theme? So far I've got wrapping boxes as presents (talk about shapes/measuring paper), repeating patterns with Christmas sponges, counting Christmas objects and our role play area will be a Toy Shop with Santa's Grotto (using money, making price labels). Would also appreciate any ideas for outside. Thank you.

I'm looking for some fresh ideas for helping my children to learn to recognise numbers - this year's class seem to be finding it really difficult (except for 2 who can recognise to 100) and I have a couple in particular who are struggling with '1' and remember that '1' is '1' from one moment to the next. I'm worn out trying to think of new ways to help them and I'm sure that soon my struggle is going to make whatever I do less inspiring for them.

Hi, I have been reading alot on this forum and looking at the fantastic information and ideas everyone on here has and so thought i would see if I too could get some brilliant advice! I am having my first lesson observation as a reception teacher on thursday, I have been in reception since september and absolutely love it! My lesson is a numeracy focused session and is based around the enormous turnip, I am planning on doing a comparing measures (weight) adult led activity and asking the children to sort enormous and small objects as one activity. Today in literacy I completed teacher in role drama as the farmer (farmer turnip) to engage the children in the story …

Hi everyone. I am just thinking about a lesson observation that I have coming up for RE. The current theme is gifts (catholic school - here i am). I am up to the learning objective ' appreciate that a gift is something special and important, given to someone by somebody else'. I would like to follow the input with some prayers of thanks in small groups to put onto the prayer table, but I can't think of anything exciting to do for the whole group bit. Any ideas....anything related to gifts would do! any help greatly appreciated Lucie

Can anyone provide some useful weekly planning examples? I'm trying to move away from very structured timetable/planning formats and want to incorporate child initiated/adult led/environment plan in a simple format that isn't onerous. thank you in anticipation!
