Hi, In our LA we used to assess just using emerging and securing through Nursery and Reception. So in Nursery, in Sept we would expect them to be emerging 30-50 months, in February securing 30-50 months and June emerging 40-60 and so on through reception. However we are now using Target Tracker and can use the 'working within' judgement so I have suggested that we now have 4 assessment periods: beginning of year, December, March and June. My worry is those children who start on 'working within' - where would we expect them to be in Feb if all the assessment levels are supposed to be equi-distant apart? What do other's do? Continuous Provision Planning

I am fairly new to planning for continuous provision, when I say new I have been at it since September but as I only teach in the Reception class in the afternoons I have felt that the current planning isn't working for me. I have a MTP for continuous provision broken into the areas and linked to the topic theme, but I want to know if I really need to do an extra weekly plan that basically just states the activities (this is what I am currently doing). Is there a better more efficient way I can do this as at the moment I am finding it a tad frustrating. TIA

Hi , we were planning today and thought we would begin with Winter and Frozen as the children are mad about it after the holiday. Has anyone got and creative ideas that will inspire our Reception children relating to the film Frozen? Thank you

Hi can I pick your brains about observation. When you make an observation on a child do you only assign it to statements you know they haven't achieved. We have a very large intake and especially for our T.A's it is hard for them to know where every child is working. Does it matter if they make an observation and assign say 30-50 points to it even though they have already achieved them? Thanks in advance

Hi all! So i have been racking my brains for my pending observation: the focus in: Boys learning and engagement!! I have 18 boys in my class with a broad range of abilities and interests. We are currently investigating 'Space' but my focus boys this week are subdued boys: happy to join in with activities but have no clear 'interest'. I am thinking of: superhero number cards: encouraging tops to add the numbers together. Literacy: linked to space/super mario/sonic/TMNT plus have a large drawn rocket on the floor and they add to that - words/pictures UW - gel/slime with resources and map making for Mario. Any other ideas?? Skittles

Hi all, We've got a 'traditional tales' topic coming up (our children are quite into fairy tales etc at the moment) and we'd like to read Rapunzel. I just can't seem to find a suitable picture book that isn't either tiny in actual size or rather long! Anyone know of any? Any help is much appreciated!

Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone could help me. We were discussing what we expect the children to be able to do for some of the Development Matters statements at my school with Nursery and Reception teachers. The one about 'selects a particular named shape' (SSM 40-60 months) was discussed as I have children in Nursery who are recognising a fair few shapes already. I was wondering which shapes you would expect children to know in order to have achieved this statement? Thanks in advance for your help! x

40-60 trace

Hello everyone My question might sound a bit strange but I would welcome opinions on this. Has anyone heard of or is using the phrase 40-60 trace when assessing Reception children? I think it is meant to be one step below entering 40-60. Thanks Jane
