Just wondered if anyone else runs their mornings like this.... We do Literacy and Numeracy every morning, so right up until lunch time this is our focus everyday. There is no legal requirement for this to be the case as far as I am aware, wondered if anyone can shed any light on it?? Anyone think this is too much Lit and Num?

Hi all, The question that I need to ask is what soap do you use for the children to wash their hands with. We used to have the pump soap but now have the hard soap. Which one is better and what one harbours more gems. Dorinda

Fun Way Of Writing Name? Please
by Guest- 16 replies

Hi all, I really cant think straight at moment we are awaiting the call from the big "O" as we know it is coming, and have had LA advisors coming out of woodwork. Whole school is being observed by EVERYONE and having planning, assesments, environments, basically everything picked to pieces!!! All I am trying to think of is a fun way of getting the reception children to write their names, without asking them to "please come here and write your name on this paper". I would like to keep a copy of it so getting them to write it on pictures/paintings etc wont work as they always take them home. My mind is mashed so any ideas would be greatly recieved. thankyou. x

What sort of 'work' books do people have in Reception? Not published workbooks, but books where children record their work directly, ie writing etc. Traditionally have had separate CLL, PSRN, Topic & RE but not sure this many are needed. Really interested to hear what everyone else does. Thanks

Hi, I was going to create a chart which shows the Development Matters and Early Learning Goals, Learning Intentions and planning and resources for the 6 areas of learning to make it easier when planning as I thought if these 3 areas are clearly set out on one page as seperate headings it would help with my planning to ensure I am covering/meeting the statutory requirements. I just wanted to ask before I do this if anyone has already created a template similar to this. I have checked on the site but cannot find anything. Ax

Next Steps For Reception
by Guest- 1 reply

I have just finished my Baseline assessments and would like to design some sort of sheet to go in the children's learning diaries to show where they are and their next steps. I was thinking of boxes for each area of development into which I could put their achievements and where they need to go next. Before I do this I wondered if anyone uses anything similar I could look at? Thanks!

Outdoor Area

Hi Could anyone share what areas you have in your outdoor area? I'm in a reception class... after finally sorting out the areas in the classroom we are now moving on to the outdoor area. Should the outdoor area mirror your indoor e.g. construction, role play, small world, book area, creative, writing, maths? etc. Do you plan the outdoor area weekly? I have been told to do a rolling plan... but this doesn't meet the needs/interests of the children. I love working in reception but don't feel i'm getting it quite right and feel like im on my own as im the only reception teacher in the school (not much expereience but im getting there!)... the FS co-ordinator doesn't seem…

I have thought about doing Handa's Suprise, but was wondering if anyine had any other ideas about stories i could use. I am feeling a little uninspired today!!!!!! Thanks

Hi all I have an extremely capable child this year who knows all her phonemes including vowel digraphs and knows how to use them independently. Where do i take her next? I'm sure the next step is to get her spelling words correctly, not phonetically but I am really against lists of spellings. What do other people do at this point?
