Hello I teach mixed Nursery / Reception in the morning and pure reception in the afternoon. I have half of the reception children with me in the morning where I have to teach maths first then RWi second (timetabled for the whole school). What i find most difficult is teaching the maths on the carpet aimed at the right level as I have children just turned 3 and then children who are 5 and ready to be stretched. At the moment I send the younger Nursery with NN/TA to the smaller room for number rhymes etc... after register, I then do some number rhymes / mental maths with older nursery and reception. What i then find difficult is when i need to teach receptio…

Hi there. Can you help with this?! I can identify next steps for individual children in Individual areas: is there a way to select a cohort of children to identify next steps in order to plan? Or select an area and identify which Children are not Acheiving in an area to identify this as a planning focus? I hope this makes sense! Thanks

Hi. When children enter reception SLT like to know what percentage of children are where they should be in each area so those that have met 30-50 and working in 40-60. The want the same info for the end of autumn term. What do I measure as "on target" now. Is it still those working in 40-60? I'm a little confused!

I use 'my unique progress' to track my YR children individually but I need to show where they are as a class. The EYFS adviser has given me a form but it isn't split into emerging, developing, secure within each of the age bands and before I start messing around with it, I just wondered if anyone has something that is easy to use/interpret? Incidentally, it also doesn't include ELGs which I think might be an issue later on! Thank you in advance!

Can I ask how others are interpreting these writing statements from Development Matters as I find them confusing... 'Begins to break the flow of speech into words'...'Continues a rhyming string' Does this mean purely in a writing context as the rhyming string also appears under reading? Does anyone know of exemplification material specific to writing which would make things clearer? Thanks Liz

Hello I am going for a job internally at work for lead practitioner in the Foundation stage(preschool), where I currently work. However I have to be observed and there are no children in on Friday so I have to be observed with Reception children. The age range is 4-5, although I have never worked with reception children, I realise there is some similarities as it is still the Foundation stage, but I am a little unsure and wanted to run my idea to some of you who work in reception} The observation has to be in one of the prime areas and 5-10 mins - I have attached the plan Here is part of my lesson plan for Friday. Prime area, Physical development – moving and handl…

Hi Everyone! We are doing a whole school cross curricular topic on WW1 for 4 weeks when we go back after half term.! I'm struggling to find suitable books/stories and activities to do with 4 and 5 year olds apart from the obvious poppy making. Help, any suggestions gratefully received!
