Outdoor Planning

Hi all, Just wondering how everyone staffs and timetables for the outdoor curriculum? We are a three form entry with 90 children and currently we open our small outoor area on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, with 1 adult outside (either teacher or TA on a rotation system). But we have found this very hard to maintain and it has not really worked. On your focus day outside we take 10 of our children out and rotate them so your full class gets an opportunity to go outside. Any suggestions / ideas / experiences are welcome ABC2009 x

Advice On Yr Timetable

Hi all, Im an NQT and working as a reception teacher. Im struggling with how to do my timetable, and how to make sure there is a balance of CIL and AD activities. Unfortunately I am being forced to do numeracy hour and literacy hour (so cant change the mornings) but wondering how to set out the afternoon activities. Would appreciate some feedback on the timetable I did over the summer, looking at it again it looks too structured for foundation. When I have specific areas timetabled, I only plan to do an 15 min whole class input, and then have 1/2 groups doing AD activities related to the input, and the other children CIL and then swaping. Is this OK?? Thank…

My 2nd 'really wondering' question. I am wondering if we should implement the idea of key workers in our setting? We are a small school of 63 children, I have a class of 18 children 11 reception and 7 year one children. I am wondering if it's something that OFSTED expect to see in every setting, and also if it's useful. Is there someone out there who could 'sell it to me please' If I'm going to do it then i need to be doing oit for a valid reason. Thankyou for reading:-) Kazz

Blank Floor Books

I really like the idea of using floor books with the children but want them to last. I can't afford the £18 plus VAT Mindstretchers ones but would like the pages to be A2 and proper paper (not suger paper) so if anyone knows of another supplier or a blank big book supplier or even a supplier of A2 paper, would be appreciated. And a sturdy cover.

Letters And Sounds In Reception

Hi Everyone, I was just wondering if anyone could help me with Letters and Sounds!! We have used it consistently for over a year now but this September we are trying to work out a timetable that will work better especially for when the children have only been in school for a couple of weeks. Our children phase into school doing only half a day (15 chdn in morning, the other 15 in the afternoon) for 6 weeks then we have them in full time. We usually start letters and sounds in week 3 or 4 but last year found tht it was such a rush to try and fit everything in. We also felt whilst the children were in half days we were really missing out on crucial PSE elements and…

Can anyone tell me when they do their basleine assessments ? I am doing it within the first few days of my new ones being in using a simple 'fun' booklet. Is this correct ? and then presumably the NEXT assessment will be in October?? Any advice regarding this would be really appreciated Thanks Kazz

Hello all Posting this for a colleague.... if anyone has any good ideas of how to develop calculation in real life experience in FS. We do adult led activities-eg cooking, specific skill teaching-1 more/less, difference etc and ad hoc stuff as are there more packed lunches or hot dinners, are there more boys or girls here today.... but what else could we do. Calculations are on the SIP so being pushed in all year groups. Any suggestions welcomed. Thank you

Would really appreciate some tips please from anyone on behaviour management. I have a large class (31) and generally they are a lovely group. However, I have about 6 or 7 who can be quite noisy/disruptive on the carpet and will not do what I ask first time. Nearly all of them do, but their compliance is almost lost among those who are noisy/chatty etc. It often takes those 6/7 quite alot of me saying I am waiting etc for them to give me their full attention ( they do in the end but not instantly). Ideally, I would like them all to be silent as soon as I ask them to be – what strategies do you use that work well? As an NQT, I feel (especially) like I am being judged …

Hi, My school is 40 years old next week and our Head would like all classes to do something for a little display linked to it. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do with Reception. I had thought about school dinners, clothes and 'what I would like to be when I am 40' Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Organising Groups For Psrn Activities

Hi all, Just wondering how everyone sorts out group activities during PSRN. I have 30 children and 2 TAs during the mornings. Saw a fab way of doing it whilst I was on placement but have forgotten!! Something like having 1 group doing the focused adult led activity on Mon, (the rest of the children doing maths related CIL/ICT) and then a different group of children do the same adult led activity on Tues and Weds, then Thurs and Fri is left for reinforcing or extending learning. Does this sound familiar to anyone? and if so does it work? Many thanks, Laura
