Ftting In Enough Maths And Lit

Hi - I'm an NQT in reception and have been told the parents in the school are the type that expect numeracy/lit to be on the timetable every day. I'm of an attitude we then need to manage and educate the parents as maths and lit will come into songs/CIL and general work each aqnd every day. My other class teacher wants to try and have phonics every moring, and between 11am till 12pm fit in a maths AND lit lesson each day.I think this is unworkable especially when you have to fit in tidying up and washing hands etc. She sees this as being 10 min whole class input then a focus group/ or could be a carousel of activities. The chn to swap after 1/2 hour and do the next subj…

Hi, Ive recently become addicted to reading forums on here and begun to question myself more and more - good for self evaluation but bad as I dont seem to be able to switch off! I recently visited another school who use abacus, ready plans but annotated, from Hamilton Trust. I used to use these about 3 years ago but have since adapted them to my own style in many many ways. I also used to use ideas for Literacy from there and still use nice texts or ideas from years of teaching to plan when looking at big books etc. My question is though, what does everybody else use? Have I missed something I should be doing? I use my observations of chns abilities to help m…

Please give me your words of wisdom for tomorrow. It's my first day with my Reception class, I am an NQT and very nervous and feeling very tearful. Got to pull myself together before the morning, so any calming words are greatly appreciated. My biggest fear is behaviour and getting it under control etc, any advice on this? Thanks so much xx

Hi, This is my first post on here.....so hello all! I have been asked to devise an on entry assessment that concentrates on the whole child, such as, their personality (are they shy in large groups) are they a leader, do they speak to adults with confidence, are they an oldest/youngest child etc. I was wondering (hoping) if anyone had something similar they could share with me? Or any ideas about things I could include. Thank you in advance!
