Maths Topics?
by Guest- 2 replies

hi there, I have a question regarding maths planning....do you plan to teach a different strand of maths every week ie one week is pattern recreation, the next is shape work or do you vary the maths according to what fits your topic ie on Tuesday look at pattern recreating and then on Thursday look at recognising 2D shapes. I usually do a strand of maths per week and relate it to my topic wherever possible but i am curious to know how others do it. Many thanks!

Hi all, another post about first week I'm afraid! During the first week the children come in, in small groups with their parents. Nothing is really planned apart from the carpet sessions that I lead. I like to use these times as an opportunity to show the parents the type of things we do and to educate them a little bit. I always do the same type of stuff and am in need of some more inspiration. The carpet sessions last about 10 mins and the sort of stuff I have done in the past is.... Phase One phonic games - I think it's really important for the parents to see what we do before we introduce letters. Jumping up and down number lines - this helps the parents t…

Hi, Although we plan using the children's ideas and interests I like to have a backup MT plan for the term. Especially for the first few weeks... This year I'm trying to link my MTP to children's films, so far I have- A1 : Ourselves- (Maybe pets or families but can't think of a film) A2 : Christmas- Santa Claus the Movie Sp1 : Toys- Toy Story (Link with Superhero's) Sp2 : Transport / Buildings ????- Cars Su : Minibeasts- A Bugs life Su2 : Journeys- Madagascar I'm tempted to reconsider Spring 2 if anyone can think of other ideas- we usually have a big focus on our local area in this term as the weather improves. I'm really struggling with Autumn 1 though! …

There has been a lot of talk about floor books lately on the forum and these are something I'm very interested in starting next year with my new class. I thought it would be nice to have a specific thread to talk about floor books and share experiences and answer questions about these so that all the information is in one place. So to start us off, how do you introduce the idea of floor books to the children? What is the first thing you put in it together? When would you do this? Is it at the start of the topic? I'm in year one and the topics are set by the whole school so we're doing homes this term . I'll be following the children's interests based around this gener…

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone can help me with some advice or point me in the direction of some! Next school year I have a gorgeous little boy starting who has many needs. He has been diagnosed as being on the Autistic Spectrum but only has the language of a 1.5 yr old although the understanding of a 2.5 yr old. I will be receiving additional help during morning sessions but feel very overwhelmed at the moment. I'm worried he wont make any progress but dont see I can access all of the curriculum until I can give him some more understanding of language? Someone recommended using the TEACH approach could anyone tell me a little about this or where they would start?…

Reception Planning

Calling EYFS teachers! How far ahead do you plan? And, how detailed? We (all teachers, all year groups) have to hand in our Planning folders on a Monday morning, for the week ahead. So I have been planning every (individual) session for Monday - Thursday, sometimes Friday as well, sometimes leaving Friday or at least half of it as 'finishing off' time, but I am finding that I very rarely get through what I have planned. Maybe planning too much!? (I had mixed Reception & Y1 for the previous two years, but class is just Reception this year). I spend pretty much all day & evening planning (rarely use my PPA for planning, as usually end up using this fo…
