Behaviour Management In Reception

Afternoon all, wondered if I could ask how you manage behaviour in Reception. I was thinking of using some sort of system, e.g. 4 weather symbols with their name on a peg. something like: Rainbow = if you are on the rainbow at the end of the day you get a sticker and a 'point' in a book sun = everyone starts on the sun every morning raincloud = done something unacceptable after a warning thunder and lightening = Unacceptable behaviour, speak to their parents at the end of the day though am not sure if this is too much for the children, or whether it may give them a complex about weather!!! or I was thinking of using a chart with all their n…

Hi all, I am moving to reception after two years in year 1 to take over from a teacher who has been in reception for 25 years! She was not happy about moving and has therefore left nothing! I have had a very long week organising the classroom, ripping out cupboards, removing tables and setting up areas of continuous provision and I'm now ready to start planning but that's where I have ground to a halt! I'm not sure whether to plan around themes, what to include and whether to do weekly or daily planning and that's where I hoped you all might be able to help? Can anyone offer any advice? Thank you in anticipation.

Sorry Me Again! Literacy Planning
by Guest- 0 replies

Hi everyone, Sorry it's me again. Trying to sort out my literacy planning for my Year R/1 class. I need to do a two year cycle as some of the children stay with me for two years. I thought about splitting the Year 1 Framework Units up over the two years which would leave time for other literacy activities to be based far more on the children's ideas and topics. Does this sound Ok. I plan to adapt the Year 1 units to suit the topic we are covering at the time. What does everyone else do? Sorry to ask for help again but I feel so muddled when trying to make sure everything is covered. I will have 19 R's and 11 year 1's.

After 2 years teaching a mixed-age class, my village school went to 4 classes and I have just had a fantastic year teaching a YR class. The children made great progress compared to the previous 2 cohorts and I felt that being able to devote myself to EYFS really made the difference. Sadly, due to falling numbers, next year we are reverting to 3 classes so I need to get my head around mixed-age teaching again. I'm finding it very hard to see how I can do my best for the reception children now I've seen how well it works when they're on their own. Can any of you lovely people reassure me that things will be OK and give me some great suggestions for making the best…

This is something I don't feel I've done very well this year and would really like to work on it next year but I'm a bit apprehensive about how it works (I'm the kind of person who plans everything ) So, I've been trying to come up some thoughts which will help me manage it. One of my main concerns is that I have a mixed YR/1 class and I'm worried that if I'm following children's interests the whole time I might never get around to teaching the Y1s the things they 'need' to cover. Based on my experience of the ones I'm keeping this year their chief interests are digging and cutting paper up into very small pieces to be sprinkled all over the carpet! I'm wonde…

Hi all, I am due to start working in an International Preschool and i have been asked to set up the classroom in any way i like, incorporating any areas of learning i see fit. This is of course very exciting, but very nerve-wracking as i have not got masses of experience in preschool (nursery) and so am not sure what should be included. So far, i would like to create: -a writing area (table including envelopes, variety of writing implements etc:: -sand play -listening station -Play-do area what else would be a good inclusioin in the classroom set-up? Could anyone give me any pointers as to how often to change these area, ie weekly or monthly? Many…

Hi Just wondered if anyone has any good ideas to get the children to tidy up and how it is managed. I was critisised by Ofsted for wasting learning opportunities at change over times so I was wondering about using a song ar something when the children are tidying. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks Julescc272
