Hi fellow EYFS members! I have an interview. I am teaching for 30 mins to a mixed ability group of 10 children (numeracy- Reception). My first thought to the structure was to do the usual 'oral/mental...main teaching...group activities and a plenary to review & extend. ' However in my current setting, we have revamped our numeracy planning after a visit from an EY advisor. We no longer have the formal standard approach which works better in KS1/KS2. We are now a lot more fluid. How would you structure the lesson for an EYFS interview? As it's only a 30 minute snapshot, it would maybe be best to do the safer option and by that I mean the structured appro…

Thank you

Hi All I know the criteria for the Baseline Assessments is out and the list of approved assessments should be out in early 2015. Does anybody have any idea of how many commercial companies may be on the approved list? I can't find out anything other than the above. Thanks

Hi all, Our school have 6 data entry points across the year, one each half term and reception do the same as the other year groups in school with data being put onto the tracker (LEA based tracker). Just wondered many data entry points do you have for Nursery in your schools?

I have a new child that has just landed, as they do, in FS2 with me. His older brother is in year 4. Both boys were born here but have only their school experience to support their English Language development. Mum has been here for 10 years. She speaks English but in a limited way but I still want her to support both boys at home... I might be able to get some bilingual books but unless he is PP I will struggle to find enough money for books for a years supply! What can I realistically and respectfully ask mum to be doing (that's if she is willing ) to support him in his learning...

Has anyone done any work on the frog prince traditional tale? Our umbrella theme is 'castles/princess/knights' so wanted to focus on a story related to that topic. We are having a 'mocksted' next week so looking for some inspirational ideas (or any other story ideas you think may be relevant!) Thanks

By chance I read my class the poem 'Macavity the mystery cat' one day last week and they loved it! So much so that they have requested it on several days and want to "do Macavity things" in class. I really want to run with this as it's the first time they have shown such a strong interest in anything! So, I'm looking for ideas. I know the objectives come first and key things I'm working on next week include: PD: using tools safely and anti-clockwise Literacy: identifying story characters/events/settings and writing labels/captions Maths: counting and ordering numbers (the majority really need to work on 11-20) EAD: mixing colours UW: using computer software (h…

Does anyone know if it is still acceptable to promote the eligibility requirements for those who would have previously been FSM? Obviously all Rec children are entitled to FSM, However is it up to the school itself to ask those who fit the previous criteria to let the school know?? Tad flummoxed!

Just a question for those people using electronic learning journeys such as Tapestry. Do you also keep 'hard evidence' such as pieces of creative work, writing etc., or do you just take photographs? If you do keep written work do you have 'Literacy' books or loose papers?

Hi all, Just wondered what kind of assessment record you all keep as I seem to be in an assessment nightmare! I've inherited the assessment system that was put it place by the deputy (I was new eyfs leader in September) and both head and deputy rave about it, neither of them having actually tried to work it. All our observations we reference to the Dev matters statements/elg's etc we then have to take each post it/observation from each child and tick it off in our assessment file where each child has a set off the dev matters statements/elg's. We use colour coded ticks for professional knowledge, observational evidence and assessment task evidence, once achieved …
