Jolly Phonics And Abacus?
by Guest- 8 replies

I am an NQT who is about to start my first teaching job in reception. At the moment we have no current phonics scheme in place however the Abacus system is followed for Literacy and Numeracy. As of september I will be using the Jolly phonics scheme alongside our general topic, e.g. people who help us. I am unsure as to whether I still need to follow the abacus system for Literacy lessons or if the jolly phonics scheme can be followed for literacy. This may be a very thick question but any help or advice would be very appreciated???

We put our observations and photos of each child into a book, which I shared with parents at our Parents Evening last term when we were discussing their progress. Several parents asked if they could keep the book at the end of the year but I wasn't sure I could do this. Generally, we send home all the children's work (which we keep in folders) but the observation books get passed on to the Year 1 teacher. Until this year, I was teaching mixed YR/Y1/Y2 so I was effectively passing books on to myself and I have to admit that I never actually looked at them. When I passed them on last year, the new Y1/2 teacher also didn't do anything with the books and only used the hig…

No Cd8- What Am I Doing Wrong?
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi, Today we have handed in our profile data and this year I have been unable to give one CD8 point this year. The children have been happy to persue adult directed creative activities but there is a severe lack of individual expression / imaginative creativity this year. Either that or I have missed it! Any ideas how I can make this a priority next year? Thanks Rachael

Hi, I'm currently the Y1 teacher in my school, but in September I will be moving into Reception as the class teacher is on maternity. We are currently trying to establish orders etc for the new academic year and I'm unsure as to whether the children in reception would benefit from subject books (e.g. 'Writing Activites', 'Number Work' etc) as has been the current set up, or if I should continue the practice from our Pre-school setting of having 'Learning Journeys' where all work is together in one file. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks Karen p.s. this is my first post to the forum, whooo

I have an interview next week and as part of it, I need to teach the current class of Reception (all 30) for 30 mins session with a mixed ability class . I need some great ideas of what I could do so that they are not on the carpet for the entire session so that they have moved around - also want to include an outdoor play activity maybe? not sure. Any ideas would be greatly received. Thanks A very nervous katiem xx
