.... being a 4 form entry we need to offer the children similiar opportunities. We did exactly as suggested by Kent and from the DM statements took out the continuous and environment statements (Which are in our continuous planning booklet) and what was left divided up into the 6 terms to show progression. Our titles are: Me and my community (KUW Time/place) How things work and why (KUW Forces and materials) Traditional Tales The Natural World (More plants and the environment than anything else) Animals past and present - any the children want to learn about Change - water etc I really want to change things to allow more freedom of choice to the…

Photographs On Sticky Labels?

We currently print out our photos on paper, 9 to a sheet of A4. Then we have to cut them all out, then stick them into their journals. It would be a lot easier if we could print onto a sheet of 9 self-adhesive labels. Then we can just peel them off and stick them in, making life easier and making the journals look a lot slicker. BUT I cannot find the right size labels. What do you do? Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of such labels? A PoGo would be great if the papers were loads cheaper. Thank you

How Do I Organise My Day?

Hi, I am new to this site so apologises if questions like this have already been answered before I am currently an NQT in reception class. There are 30 children in the class and I have a 1 full time TA (who has never done reception before). I am slowly sorting myself out but not sure if I am going along the right track. How many CLL and PSRN lessons should I do a week? Should these be whole class activities or adult led group activities? How long should the children be spending doing child initiated activities per day? If anyone has any good planning formats and weekly timetables I could look at I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.

I am hoping there are lots of you out there who can help. Thank you

Hi there, Im looking for a bit of help on how people structure their day in a reception class... i teach in a two form entry reception class and have made big changes to go towards child initiated learning and allowing the children to engage in contin. provision for extended periods of time. I do daily phonics, v short maths sessions and a planned focus activity everyday. I know the balance should be 70% CI and 30% AL, at the moment my children are getting more than 70% CI however there are adults interacting all the time and moving them on in their own learning either individually or in groups the children are playing in. Im happy with this and feel the children …

Vip Systems

Hello, I have recently had a meeting with all staff in foundation stage relating to the progress matters. Currently we are doing long observations on any children. Staff are timetabled in for observation time where we observe any child who we can see are doing something special. However I am not sure this is what long observations are all about. I am wondering if anyone has a VIP system in school and how it works. I have heard some people have the VIP children on display (visual for parents - getting them involved in doing observations). Just wondering how it works and if anyone has any photos of their VIP walls for inspiration. Thanks Steph

Should He Know This...

I am a childminder and I care for a child who is just 5, so in Reception class and the Eyfs. We had a long chat about the differences between monosyllabic and polysyllabic words at the tea table the other evening!! Now ok he's a bright lad but I've always strongly believed in the play ethos of the Eyfs going through reception. So, I wondered if I could ask any reception teachers out there - should they really be teaching him this? I have to be honest even the teens looked blank when he first started talking LOL! Thank you!

Hi This is the 1st time i have posted a new article on here so not sure if i'm doing this right! I wonder if anyone can help. I am in the process of moving classrooms (Reception) to a classroom with a fire door directly outdoors. This will enable us to have free flow access. (previously difficult as we are a very old school and very inappropriate for EYFS!) i am now going to have a large outdoor area which will be fenced securely, large area grassed and some paved. in this area we will also have a tire run (great for physical play) and a small wildlife area with new trees growing. However i am now finding it difficult to decide what we should do with the area! i…
