Refugee Week

We are doing a whole school theme for Refugee Week in a couple of weeks. This seems a very hard concept for my little ones. Anybody done this before or can help in anyway? I'm thinking of linking it with water - lack of it, too much of it etc A bit stuck for ideas though at the moment. Can anyone help?

Hi everyone, I'm not sure that I've posted this in the right place but am hoping for your advice. We are currently reviewing the books that we have for each child in Reception. Currently we have a CLL book, PSRN book and CIL book. Some people think that we should go for one book that contains everything. I have concerns, particularly when we should be doing 1 guided write a week and other focus CLL activities (or PSRN), that certain sections would be filled quickly. I have seen some where everything follows in date order but then I feel I would be trawling through all the time for evidence. I had thought that we could keep PSRN, change CLL into Writing Bo…

Spinning Wool

Hello everyone... Just planning a lesson explaining the Journey from Sheep to Jumper.... I have bought a real sheep's feel, some unspun wool, some spun and undyed wool and wool that has been spun and died... The activity suggests that you let them have a go at spinning some fleece between their fingers......How do they do this? Sorry if this seems a silly question....but is this just wrapping it round your fingers? Also could anyone possibly help me in explaining this process to 5 year olds without being too complicated? As you can see I dont knit.....so no idea how you use a spinning wheel... Thank you for your help

Hello again... Just wanted a little help on how ppl manage the key person in a reception class... we are 2 form entry with 30 chn in each class and a teacher and full time TA in each class. At the moment we do what i suppose would be known as a 'co-key person' appraoch where the children know their own T and TA are there key people (we work completely as a unit so the chn know all four adults very well). However thinking forward to September I believe this is probably not good enough and the chn and parents need to know which one of those two adults is their key person? So how do ppl manage this - just 15 chn each? And how much time do chn have with their key person i…

I have an interview this Friday for a Reception job. I'm an NQT and have been working part time in a v. old fashioned reception where I have had to deliver worksheets etc so I feel a bit out of practise at planning activities that are fun! I have had my confidence dented a bit in my current post...I wasn't expecting it to be so traditional and I haven't been trained to deliver learning that way! I have just 15 minutes with 18 children to deliver something on the topic of farm animals which encourages children to use interesting vocabulary. They have been looking at farms for a while as there was a role play farm area up when I viewed the school a couple of weeks ago. …

Hi Was wondering what everyone else does in September. Do all your reception children start on the same day or is there a staggered start? Do they do a full day straight away? How long is it before they are all in full time? Thanks for any replies Elle

HI everyone As some of you know I am taking over the FS in September. I had a meeting with our EYFS advisor today and spoke to her about my ideas for September and she gave me some great advice - but a little bit scary too. With regards to writing she said think about an interest or activity and think about how we can get purposeful writing experiences into this rather than guided writing for guided writing sake. Then I told her that guided reading is done by withdrawing ability groups and doind a formal guided reading session. She said rather than do this have informal reading times in the reading area with an adult based there throughout the week and if by E…

Wondering if anyone can help, please, by sending me some phase five planning detailed in a weekly teaching format based on the letters and sounds materials. I dont really have time to reinvent the wheel and although I thought I had some, I cant find it! Thank you. Also if marion comes by, do you have anything on paper to match Big Cat Phonics directly to letters and sounds please? I need to give my colleagues a very exact teaching programme. Thanks.
