by Guest- 6 replies

Hi, I am new to my role (FS Co-ord) and have been speaking to the KS1 phase leader as to how to combine our sports day. I really would like to invite the parents and have mummy races/daddy races etc. Has anyone done this successfully? Also what types of activities have people tried for sports day and have you been successful? Thanks in advance for your responses!

Just had a visit from our LEA advisor (who is an Ofsted inspector), who wanted to see how effective my assessment and data in the EYFS was and so I showed him my data, shared Learning Journals, explained how we plan using our observations of and knowledge of the children, use of E-Profile to track children's progress throughout the year etc. We have just been given 'good' by Ofsted and feel that after lots of hard work, we have got to a good place in terms of how we work as a team, collecting and analysing observations and planning with children's interests and needs in mind. After a short while, I realised that he was less interested in the 'good' practice, but was …

Lesson Obs Based On Pirate Theme
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi, I'm being observed next week and really need something with the 'WOW' factor. We are basing our theme around pirates as the children have shown an interest in it. I was thinking about showing the children a large pirate treasure chest filled with various items belonging to the pirate. I thought that I would show the children various word cards e.g. map and ask them to segment & blend to read the words then find the corresponding object in the treasure chest. I thought that my TA could work with a group of children in the sand tray finding different golden coins with real and nonsense words written on them. The children would have to, again, segment & blen…

Hi, We have been told that we are to have a visit by a team from the National Strategies, we should expect them for 2 days and their focus will be the impact of the SIP ( School improvement Partner) and the EYFS and so far we have no more information other than the dates to expect them. Has anyone else had a visit and maybe can give me a heads up as what to expect. We were graded outstanding last year (school and EYFS) and the impression we got was they are looking at the LEA and in order to assess them they need to see the schools. My profiles, learning journeys etc are up to date, I know the direction we need and I want to head next but as Co-oOrdinator I would r…

I am trying to plan some 'wow' activities (both large / small group) based upon the 'uses developing mathematical ideas & methods to solve practical problems' aspects of NLC & Calculating. Any inspiration - or pointers to get me started would be very gratefully recieved.

Hi everyone, I am being observed doing a Literacy session this week with my class of 30 Reception. There is just me and a TA. The observer likes to see them all doing something with me on the carpet and then them all going to do something related in groups. These activities can be play, although for obs she likes it quite directed and them all making some progress towards LO. I thought of maybe doing something on a story so Learning Objective could be something like- To retell the story using different methods. Then group work could be differentiated with stuff such as- painting/collaging characters making puppets from story Sticking pictures of story…
