Learning journeys or books? Help!
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi all, i'm back in reception after many years away. I thought learning journeys were still the way forward rather than formal literacy, mathematics and topic books. I was told yestersday by the KS leader that I should have all 3 books with evidence in them to show a clear progression. Think they were very shocked when I said I didn't have any book work. All my evidence is observations and photos with a few examples of child initiated writing. Is this wrong? Help! What is everyone else doing these days. Thanks in advance.

I am sure all EYFS teachers would agree that assessment is only useful if we use it inform our planning. We have tried different planning formats in our Nursery and Reception classes. Would anyone like to share their format showing that planning should be a working document ie next steps etc. How is differentiation addressed and shown in that planning? Also are observation folders used and how? Endless post its? If you would like to share that would be great.

discrepancies between Nursery and Reception assessments

Hi, I've recently just taken on the sole responsibility for EYFS coordinator in my school (I was sharing responsibility with the Nursery teacher who is now on maternity leave). When coming to do my Reception baseline assessments I have noticed very obvious differences from what we judge for where the children are to what the Nursery have said the children are at the end of the summer. A lot of the 40-60 months are highlighted as the children achieving them without any evidence. I know we don't have to have evidence for everything and we are to use our own judgement, but we are seeing children who aren't even meeting 30-50 as a baseline in Reception and have come up to us…

Hi everyone, I've had the big O in this week and need to change my next steps for various reasons. 1. How do you link/show next steps on your planning? 2. How do you show that you've followed it through and what is the time scale for this? 3. How many next steps should a child have and where should they be shown? Thank you so much in advance

Hi all, The children in my class have shown an interest in the film 'Frozen'. I was wondering if anybody had done a mini topic on this before? Or have any suggestions for resources/CI activities that I can leave out? I've so far thought of the usual- make an ice castle from junk modelling and decorate, freezing jewels/animals in ice, sparkly playdoh etc. Any new/exciting ideas welcome!! Thanks

Hi Can anyone give me an idea of when they update their whole class data please. We currently do ours on entry( say end of September, then in oct, Feb and then just before submitting in June for the final profile scores. We were having a discussion if it would be better to update in December, April and then in June for the final profile scores. Thanks

What do you all do/get for your PM targets? Is it a GLD prediction? My reception teacher is loathe to predict the GLD at this time of year because until she actually starts proper phonics and has done it for a wee while, she doesn't like to second guess if they are going to "get it" or not. New head in post and we are a bit nervous we are going to be given an unrealistic GLD target that will be out of our reach. Help!!!!

by Guest- 5 replies

Hi everyone, I have a interview as an Early Years Teacher very soon at a Primary school which is an Academy Trust School.I qualified with my EYTS this august and this is my first interview since! I am very nervous! As part of my interview process there will be a 30 min EYFS Literacy lesson that I have to deliver. Now here's the thing, 1) It doesn't say to what age group of children the lesson will be for, i am assuming reception so 4-5 yrs and 2) i was in a private day care setting for my EYTS training where there was no formal, time blocks for teaching of literacy, rather i incorporated literacy and phonics into everyday activities or through very short circle t…

Ofsted Age Related Expectations

Hi - can anyone point me in the right direction for the Ofsted guidance relating to on entry age related expectations. The last info I can find is from 2012 - I'm not sure if there has been further guidance since this? OFSTED 2012 : Attainment on entry to nursery at age three Most children are likely to be working within the ‘Development Matters’ band for 30–50 months, having shown competence in the preceding band for 22–36 months. This may be referred to as the age-related expectation at the beginning of nursery. Attainment on entry is likely to be below age-related expectations where a substantial proportion of children in a school do not demonstrate all of the ele…
