I have a paper copy of all the ELGs listed in the 6 areas of learning 3 times (one for each old term) on 2 sides of A3 - has anyone an electronic equivalent - I've mislaid my original copy. I think the original came from a Kent planning course.

Learning Journals

HI I currently work in a Reception class which has just come out of special measures. I am a bit concerned though about how we are monitoring progress through learning journals. We basically put in all post it notes observations and then put an FSP or Developmental band reference to it. This means that someone may see a child counting to 10 every week and put it in again! There is no real progression as such it is just everything. We do also put photos and any incidental or teacher led writing etc. but they just seem a bit haphazard. Would anyone please let me know how they monitor progressand and do learning journals. I have been thinking about doing a formal observ…

Letters And Sounds In Reception
by Guest- 10 replies

Hi all, would really welcome some advice re: Letters and sounds. I have to take over a reception class after easter as current teacher on long term sick. With regard to letters and sounds, the assessments show that the children are half way through phase 2 activities. The TA has told me that teacher I'm covering only ever does phase 1 and 2 in reception, whereas I had always thought children completed phase 1,2 and3 in reception then did 4 and 5 in Y1. I have been in nursery for so long, I am happy to stand corrected, but I just want to know- how far shouold you expect reception children to get with letters and sounds by the end of reception? Thanks for any replies.

Hi all, We are currently using Progress Matters for assessment. However we have come across a problem. We have more children than 42 but we cannot add any more children as the spread sheet only goes up to there. We have tried insert cell, row etc and still the child's details do not come up. We are trying to add the extra children in the 'Add children's names section'. Then when we go into view assessment there is nothing. Aaaaaaahhhhhh. It has us all stumped. Has anyone come across this and how did you resolve it? Thanks for all your help

How Do You Do It?

Hi I am currently working in a developing Reception class. We have a long way to go but we have also come a long way. I haven't been at the school long and have also been out of teaching (having children of my own) for a few years. I have a few questions about issues I feel we need to address, With regards to the balance of child intiated adult led activities. Out whole day is child intiated in a strong enabling environment and open access to outside. We then have a PSRN carpet session and a CLL carpet session a day. This planning is done on a weekly basis and comes from the needs of the children. The carpet groups are small and split into key worker groups .W…

Hi ladies Well I am confused! Can you help? I am a reception teacher who has just had a good ofsted and no problems in moderations over the last few years but we have just had county in and the advisor said that we don't 'do' child initiated and should do more. Let me explain how we do it at the moment and please advise how else we can organise it all. We have two classes of 30 children - two teachers and two full time fantastic TA's. We do one adult-led activity a day and the zones in the two classrooms and outside have a learning challenge but although we tell the children about the challenges they have access to the resources in the zones and can take the c…

Challenges For Ci

This is a follow up query to Becs08 posting about CI AI and Ad activities. I'd really appreciate some help with the challenges in activity areas for CI sessions, inside and out, for a yr R class - can anyone recommend anything? (There's a definite note of desperation here, isn't there?!)
