Ive been trawling through pages (looking at almost every title and finding out lots of useful bits and tips!!) and realised prehaps i should just post my own to try and find my answer..... I wondered how often people are carry out planned observations? and do you do it just for one child at a time or for a group? How long for and ever any focus? Or just to find interests and next steps? Also does anyone have any proformas they use for this? i already use post its and photos etc regularly but having read lots of these messages feel maybe planned observations is something I need to include more. Thank you very much for any help - it will be greatly appreciated!

Interview Advice Please
by Guest- 2 replies
I have been lucky enough to be invited to an interview for a reception post and am rather nervous as I really want this job, and it is my first teaching interview. I have been given a free scope re the teaching part of the interivew, and provided with an opportunity to show off my skills in a curriculum area of my choice. There will be a group of approximately 10 reception children (no SEN/behavioual needs) and no TA. Although I have a few ideas of lessons which are creative and involve all the children in the group, I would appreciate some advice or lesson ideas (25 mins) which would be suitable for an interview situation. Thanks

I am asking this on behalf of someone, the child in question has recently changed their ehaviour dramatically for the worse. They have started coming home and saying amongst other things, you dont love me, i want to kill myself, i hate myself, i am fat etc she has lost all self confidence, does not want to do her work or go to school and is basically the opposite of the child she was.She is in yr 1. Nothing at home has changed, this is all the information I have so I am hoping anyone might have some theories or strategies or things to consider that might help this mum n dad x

Hi everyone. Our EYAT visited today and suggested that we should purchase addition books which show disabilities in a normal way and men/women carrying out the reverse of stereotypical roles. We have books about a disability - Topsy and Tim meet a special friend - for example but we need to find some which don't portray disabilities as being special or different.... Hope I've explained myself well enough! I asked for a suggested list .... but no joy - so I thought I'd try all of you helpful souls! Any suggestions?

Hi, I want to do a lesson where the children design their own dinosaur in their small group work but I am struggling to think of ideas on what to do for the main teaching on the carpet. I really want to grab their imaginations. Any ideas gratefully received!

Hiya all when i was looking through the posts a couple of weeks ago I noticed one about writing belts for children. One reply said their staff had them to keep all their bits and pieces in. There I was next day with my own belt bag (receiving some strange looks I might add). For someone who loses everything it is brilliant. I always have pen, camera, scissors, stickers and obs book to hand. I feel quite efficient. so a big thank you to whoever’s idea it was.

Eyfs Thinking

I'm having a headache and lost a few hours sleep over it last night. I'm a reception/nursery teacher in a foundation unit, and have two nursery nurses full time. My NN'S go home as the last nursery child leaves the setting (3:30pm) We are running the three hour session 008:45 - 11:45 12:30 - 15:30 How do you and the rest of your staff come together to talk about observations, next steps etc. There is no time during the dfay at all, and in true EYFS style it does say that all adults working in setting should discuss planning obs etc. Would love to hear where you fit it in xxx
