Please can you advice me on how you manage child initiated activities and adult focussed activities. We don't always have anyone for support in Reception so I do adult focussed activities and child led running alongside but there isn't anyone observing them. Just wondering how others manage this and I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance. Jules

Gadget For Recording Eyfs?
by Guest- 2 replies

I have been told by another FS teacher that they have seen a gadget that allows you to take photos add comments and link them to the eyfs goals. She couldn't remember what it was called but knew it cost about £180. Does anyone know what this is called or who stcks them. It would save us a fortune in printer ink and time filing.

I have to do writing for my next lesson which is going to be observed. I write with my children a lot but I am unsure what to do. I was thinking of requesting a monday slot and doing circle time with the children and asking them what they did at wekend - then moving to the table and they can then write what they did at the weekend. What do you guys think to theat? Or should it be something else. Your thoughts and idea will be greatly appricated. Many thanks in advance.

Hello folks, have copied this and am posting it here as well, as put it in the Transport resources section and not sure if it will get seen so quickly... Hope that's ok? I've got a lesson obs again- don't they come round fast This time it is on writing. I teach a class of 30 reception children. Quite lively! Our topic is transport. They've written about where they would like to go on a train. My lesson ideas so far are Role play a boat journey.- stream, pool, waterfall, polluted town, sea- outside on a blanket if weather permits In class, show a golden sentence and children partner talk why it is. Use of visualiser Write success criteria for golden sentences. …

Daily Record

Hi everyone, I'm just having a reflective moment....... I'm trying to streamline my end of the day review (personal), a kind of record of events,.....and am stuck! Usually, i record what toys and equipment the children accessed (inside and out), what resources they used in the creative area, stories and audio tapes listened to, fab child led moments, adult initiated learning, and any other significant (IMHO) details. The trouble is that I'm writing more and more! can anyone tell me how they record 'what they've done each day'? oh, I forgot to mention that I teach in a nursery class attached to a school!

Making Big Talk Exciting
by Guest- 0 replies

I am trying to raise the standard of writing in my class. To cope with the actual 'writing' side we are starting to use the Russian scaffolding approach with great success, but I am well aware that I need to improve the quality of their talk as well. I bought the book Talk the Big Talk and have tried a couple of sessions, but I am not feeling excited so I don't think the children are. We have made a super hero display for our super sentences, but I think I am missing something! I would love to go on the course, but our school has no money for that so I am trying my best. Does anyone run this in their school and if so what do they do? How do you structure sessions? I am …

Hey, anyone got any ideas about what I could do for circle game (action ones for PE) Im finding that the circle games are making my Pre schooler's join in more with the PE lesson. I currently, play, 'Duck, Duck Goose,' Princess long ago, farmers in his den, ball games - roll to a freind. Can anyone think of anymore that my children can enjoy. It will last for the next 4 weeks and is with reception children as well. Thanks in advance.

Anyone Not Doing Learning Journals?
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi At the moment we have not be doing learning journals for the children in our Reception classes as other staff members and the headteacher are not sure of the purpose and value of these journals for us as teachers. Is there anyone else that has not yet started the learning journal process or is doing it in a different way that may be more manageable for us to make for 60 YR children? Many thanks! Kerry
