I have 14 children in my YR class and at the moment, my TA and I are trying to do one long focused observation per child every week but I can't say that they seem to be very useful. Do we have to do these so often? We do Post it note observations as well and take what appear to be hundreds of photos but when analysing the observations they often don't tell us much. Any helpful suggestions? Thanks

Hi all, We are holding a literacy information evening for parents next week and my role is to talk about early reading skills and the application of phonics for children in Foundation Stage and KS1. My colleague will be talking about the discreet phonics sessions, explaining the terminology and progression of the phases, so my role is to look at how children apply the skills they learn in phonics when they are reading. Has anyone got any ideas or resources they can suggest? I only have to talk for 5-10 minutes so it's literally a quick whistlestop tour but any ideas will be gratefully received! Or if you can point me in the direction of any previous discussions on he…

I would be very grateful to hear if anyone has already made provision for children who need a boost to reach level 6 in the areas mentioned above. I know what target to write down, its just that with the other groups (those who will def not achieve level 5 or above) and (those already working towards level 5) my head is in a spin! Eight children need 'the' boost. I have split them in two groups, …

Learning Journey/record?
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi al, Was just seeking some thoughts/opinions from likemided people... I went on a course recently which sugested a lovely idea for enhancing home/school sharing.. They suggested what i think was called a learning journey. A sheet which parents can fill in and share more information throughout the year. Eg what they would like their child to achieve at school, anything significant they have done out of school etc Just wondered if anyone else uses this or have anything simillar to share?! Many thanks in advance
