Hi I've finally plucked up the courage to write my 1st post - not been a member long and I need a little bit of help. I've been teaching reception for 3 years now and we have always followed a v structured routine - too much numeracy and literacy and not enough coverage of the other areas of learning. We have recently been given the go ahead 2 change things around, finally! I was just wondering if any1 could give me some ideas on the organisation of a reception classroom/ planning, timetable etc. How many adult led activities do you do a week? If I have specific areas in the classroom do the same resources stay out all week or do they get enhanced as the week go…

Hello! Please could anyone who works in reception let me know how many whole class sessions you do in a day? Our daily whole class sessions consist of: Phonics (first thing in the morning) about 20 mins (although this is done in 4 groups as we have 45 children and 4 staff; Whole class short gather (about 10 mins) before morning snack - might be shared reading big book or circle time etc Whole class maths gather (about 10-15 mins) just before lunch Whole class short gather (about 10 mins) straight after lunch - again may be big book/topic related etc Does this seem too much/too little/just right??? Also, does anyone have 5 literacy gathers per week at a given …

Hi all, Nearly half term!! I am going to Burlin over half term on a study visit and have asked to prepare a lesson 'incase' they ask us to teach for a short time. It could be for any age from EY's through to Yr 6 and obviously language will be a barrier. Does anyone have any ideas for what I could do? Really struggling for ideas!! Many thanks.

Hi all, We are currently in the middle of changing our planning to the 'Huddersfield Planning'. I went on the Huddersfield training course in 2007 so have some knowledge of the planning, but need a refresher. Does anyone use the Huddersfield planning and if so do you have an example of a long, medium and short term plan? I have the templates of the medium and short term plans but I am not sure if I'm putting the right things in the right boxes ! lol Never know whether you are doing the right thing with planning as there is no set format with Foundation Stage Hope someone can help Thanks x x

Hi, I'm really sorry to ask about phonics again but here goes: in my nursery class we currently do phase 1 phonics as a whole-class which seems to work well - but I'm very aware that for many of the activities it states 'in a small group'. I'm just wondering if others tend to do phonics as a whole class or in small groups, and if in small groups, when do you find time, as well as your other focused activities? Of course, we have other phonics going on through the day - songs & rhymes first thing, reading rhyming stories, making sounds up to stories etc but am aware of the guidance of 'daily, planned phonics activities'. Thanks Green Hippo x

Hi, I could really do with some ideas! I am about to do my 6 week placement in the baby room and am thinking of an activity to 'lead and support' in as part of my EYPS long pathway written task. All my experience is with 2 and above so I'm finding the thought of organsing an activity for babies a little daunting. So far I've thought about treasure baskets, or an activity with light and dark. Hope someone out there can help me! Many thanks.

Hi all, Just wondering how you record your evaluation and next steps of the CI learning? And should we be doing this? I use a sheet with an evaluation box and a next step box for each day but feel that I repeat what we've written in the obs that day anyway (as these are, of course, a record of the significant learning that has been observed), I also record general obs such as, which areas have been particularly popular or not popular or group interests etc. I'm just wondering whether I'm writing too much down or too little? Any advice? Thanks Green Hippo
