   I have a large group in my year 1 class that are still working from the foundation stage profile. My TA has spent a lot of time supporting this group through their first term in year 1 but now I need to start aiming the support at other groups in my class. I am having difficulty planning for this group when the rest of the class is writing stories e.g. fairy tales. Has anyone got any suggestions or examples of planning that they think might help? I am trying to improve their independence this term and aim towards writing CVC words independendently. Many thanks!

   Sand And Water In A Weather Topic!

   Hello everyone!! I'm doing the topic of weather ! I'm trying to think of as many ideas as i can for the water and the sand throughout my topic of weather! I'm thinking of burying laminated icicles in the sand pit and laminated sets of clothing for a hot day and a cold day etc! I'm also thinking of asking children to compare the water tray in the outdoor classroom to that in the indoor classroom. I wondered if anyone had any other thoughts! Thank you ! I'll keep adding my thoughts as i can think of them!

   Hi all! Have been teaching 'topics' since sept (under pressure) and have found it hard to bend the topic to fit my children's needs. Last week the children were horrendous with each other and managed to break a construction box whilst fighting over it. It was then that I decided to forget the topics (to hell with the National Curriculumists) and concentrate on PSED relationships, behaviour, self control, self esteem etc. I wouldn't be able to do this through my topic (animals) as it doesnt' lend itself to these areas. The result is that the children are much more settled and happy as we're spending quality time on what they need, instead of rushing through…

   Hi all, I am a Reception teacher and each morning before assembly and the register there is approximately 5 minutes where the children sit on the carpet waiting for the other children to put their things away and join them. What activites could the children do in this time? I need something that will keep the children occupied but that does not take much setting up or need any equipment. I have and IWB and was thinking of maybe some kind of challenge?? Thank you for any ideas and suggestions, ABC xx

    Hi, In the guidance the creative development states that children should Use ideas involving fitting, overlapping, in, out, enclosure, grids and sun-like shapes. Can anybody suggest an activity for 'sun like shapes' as I'm not sure I understand this? Thanks Rachael
