Hello! Were having food and celebrations as our main topic when we return from half term. I'm basing my medium term planning on the LCP science food plans. Has anyone else done this or doing this as a topic and have any ideas or plans to share? We thought it would fit in really well with bonfire night as soon as we sart back. Thank you x

Hi there, We have got observations the first week back after half term and our head is wanting to focus on 'investigations'. Obviously in Early Years that involves exploration too. Has anybody got any good ideas on what I could do? My excuse for lack of inspiration is because I ran a marathon at the weekend!!! My topic is either Night and Day or Shoes and Slippers Thanks! Nomie

. . . . . would any kind hearted reception practioners put up some examples of their timeatbles - or point me in the right direction to find som examples. I have really got to get my head around trying to fit everything in (guided reading / individual readins / phonics (group or whole calss) PSRN - focused teaching linked to CD/PD/KUW/PSED . . . the list goes on) without losing the essence of child initiated play and learning. Its beginning to feel like an impossible job!!!

I feel like I'm always asking questions here, but I really want to get things right for the children in my class and everyone here has such useful advice! I'm sitting here thinking about my literacy planning for next term (I'm in year one). I have about six children who can't write at all and don't really know their letters. Handwriting

Many of my reception class are ready to start forming letters- we have done write dance every day last term and along with the phonics aspects they are starting to identify phonemes within words. We have been starting to do shared/modelled writing- they tell me what to write and what sounds to use. They are starting to try and write the sounds they can hear- not all but some- but we use cursive script in our school and they are not able to form correctly- should I start teaching letter formation now? any tips/advice on how to go about this- whole class, small grp?

Hi, I recently went on a course which was fab! It highlighted a new piece of equipment called 'Fingertips'. It is basically a hand held mobile phone or palm device that you use to take photos, record evidence, take video clips etc... and it records all the assessment data for each child, using each of the six areas etc... This would mean no post it notes and much less time used on recording the evidence needed for each child. It looks fab and sounds great. My head seems keen too. I was just wondering if anyone actually has it and is using it in school and if it works! It's quite expensive to purchase, so I thought I'd see what others thought about it. Lizzi…
