Hi, please can someone help me with how you set out your literacy lessons in reception throughout the week? I'm curious to see how others do it and how you approach writing with Reception children. Thanks Jules

Challenges

I've introduced challenges for the children to complete this year (Reception). If they complete the challenge then they get a sticker for their chart. My problem is that it's always the same children who are accessing them and, more significantly, the same children who are not! I'm just wondering what pther people do- do you 'make' the children complete the challenges or do the children choose and, if so, how do you target the ones who you really want to access them!

Hi all! I'm starting in reception next week (have been a kS2 teacher since qualifying 10 years ago) and am STILL not sure about lots of things!! I'm slowly getting to grips with it all. I've finally sorted the phonics side of it. I'm just sorting out a 'loose' timetable for the day. I know I need a daily phonics session, but do I need a daily PSRN session too? My colleague says they shouldn't need a focussed session but I'd just like to check what other people think. Please could someone help?!! Thank you!

Eyfs Expert

I happened to come across a website called EYFS Expert today. I believe it is an electronic system for recording observations, it cross references the profile points and produces an end of year report. I just wondered if anyone was using it or knew of anyone using it and whether it was any good. As a school we have bought into variety of web based resources that only get used for a short time and before I pay into it I would like to know if anyone would recommend it. many thanks Nicky

This is a big deal for all LAs and is measured by the EYFSP outcomes. Our gap reduced this year so we must be doing something right - however we have some key groups who are consistently underachieving and we know from research that this starts well before the end of the EYFS. Clearly OFSTED are now very involved in monitoring how outcomes for vulnerable groups are being supported so it is becoming a much wider issue. Can I ask how much people analyse on entry assessments/summative assessments to identify whether particular groups are doing less well ? e.g. SEN/ boys vs girls / EAL vs non EAL/different minority ethinic groupings in the setting etc etc.... and wha…

New Home Corner!
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi all, after nearly 8 years of asking begging and pleading (!!) i finally have some lovely new home corner furniture! I want to build this into my planning for next week - the children love the tools and are constantly pretending to DIY in our current home corner! I want to involve them as much as possible as I think they will respect the new area more this way. Thought we would try designing out home corner lay out, decide what we need in there and collect it together etc and get them to help with the building of the units etc as it is flat pack! Any more ideas on this theme that would help me extend it for the week would be gladly accepted. Thanks ems
