Hello all, I have just got my first job as a rec teacher. I have set up an investigation table in my classroom and am not having much luck. The chn do not tend to go to this area much. At the moment I have a box with magnets, some mirrors, a box of stones for the chn to investigate. I am struggling with ideas of items to put out on the table. Any ideas you have would be great!!!! Thanks x

Hello everyone, I am looking for some inspiration for some ideas of how some of you are doing your short term planning! i'm wondering how you layout your short term planning or what formats you use. I'm really interested in any ideas you may have. In my receiption class, I have a planning wall with each of the six areas of the foundation stage forum on and i pop post it notes on each area with the weeks ideas. But wondered what else you may all do ? Thank you so much !

Boys Boys Boys!

I desperately need some help and advice before I go completley bonkers!! I have an amazing class of 14; all incrediably able - and 11 of whom are boys. I appreciate it is early days but they are wearing me out!! and maybe I am panicing far too soon but I feel if I can't get things under control now its all going to go pear shaped! They only seem to play with the same things - the builders kit, the pirate ship and the bikes, trikes and scooters. They don't however engage in any quality play, they crash the scooters and the pirate ship and as for sharing - lets just say its a work in progress. Through my observations and discussions with parents they all like the same t…

Q About Planning For Kuw
by Guest- 2 replies

I apologise if this is a silly question but having moved from year 2 im trying to come to grips with planning for Reception. If you are planning for KUW do you work from a scheme or medium or do you just decide each week what you want to cover-say investigating changes etc. Its just my school have said just that to me-that i decide (whereas in Year 2 we worked off a med term plan which guided you on concepts to cover-e.g senses) Im so confused and a bit stressed that i may not cover all the outcomes if i am to choose them myself. Not sure that makes any sense but hoping one of you will

Please, please can you tell me what your daily timetable looks like inc how you do snack etc as i am really struggling with what a typical day in reception (at this point in the year) should be like. Ive spent hours trying to sort mine but without 'interupting' the children free flow playing im struggling with how to fit tasks in. Id be really grateful if you could tell me what your day looks like inc how long to do a whole class task foe and how often. Also if your class have free access to the outdoor area etc. Thanks in advance

Topic Or No!

Hi everyone, I am beginning to get sleepless nights already about how we plan within my reception class. We had the dreaded Ofsted last spring and thankfully were given a good with elements of outstanding so planning and provision can't be that far off what we should be achieving in EYFS. However, I am beginning to feel slightly lost at this moment in time with the argument for or against topics. I read a thread on here somewhere recently which seemed favourable to dropping topics altogether. I could see how this would allow more freedom to follow children's interests, which I currently meet through my play plannning activities in general with a main topic theme, …

Literacy Planning
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi all I'm new to Reception after teaching year 5 for five years and i'm trying to get my head around Literacy planning. Do you use a book to focus your planning on? How often do the children have guided writing? We've been doing initial CLL based assessments and lots of speaking and listening activities. I'm just wondering how to organise Literacy once the children have settled and what sort of activities people do. Could I possibly look at some examples of Literacy planning so I can get an idea?? Thanks.

I was googling Maths schemes of work and I stumbled across this scheme of work from OUP. It is called Making Maths Make Sense and seems to be very visual and interactive. There are lots of clips on Teachers TV of it being used. Does anyone use it in their school and if so, what do you think?
