Hi, my best mate is being observed for maths by the evil maths co and the new head teacher - both of whom no nothing about foundation stage and last time gave her a 'satisfactory' for what was really a good lesson. She is in full on panic mode now! She has been told to push the high acheivers, the observation is next week. I think they are really looking for a much more formal year one style lesson. Any ideas? We are having a crisis meeting this evening with wine! Thanks x

Combined Nursery & Reception Planning

Following our Ofsted inspection in July we have been told that, in order to improve progress, Nursery and Reception need to work more closely together. Admittedly we do operate more or less separately and recognise that we need to work on this in light of the EYFS ethos. We have decided our first will be to start planning our topics together, however we are unsure about how to go about this. I understand that we will need to put together a 3 year cycle, as some children attend Nursery for almost 2 years and so will repeat topics in Reception if we only plan over two years. Is this what other people do? We also need to start thinking about the idea of planning more from t…

Evidence From Nurseries
by Guest- 11 replies

We have now received the records for the children in our reception classes. We have 2 different authorities that send in records and they are as different as can be. One of the records have all the Development matters for each of the 6 areas on 6 sep sheets and the ones that the children have completed are highlighted. the other authority send us an A3 folder with evidence of what they have observed the children doing but no record as to which areas they relate to and include a transfer sheet with general comments HELP How am I to know where each child is on the 2nd record and do I have to complete all the blanks on their record? What do others do please? Carmad

Continuous Planning In Y1
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi everyone, I'm hoping for some help please. I'm currently moving from my EYFS unit into Y1 and want to make the transition as pain free for the children - and me - as possible. We currently display continuous planning for sand, water, roleplay, small world etc in the unit, which HMI really liked. I just feel that I need to also do this for my designated independent areas of learning in Y1 so that I am linking both the EYFS guidance with the N.C. I just wondered if anyone else had already done this before I start what seems to be a mammoth task. Cheeky I know, but I'm all for not reinventing the wheel. I'd be really grateful for any advice. Many, many thanks …

Initial Observations

I am working with someone new this year and I want to make sure I am telling her the right thing. In the past I have always used these first few weeks to get to know the children without writing much down. We have had some training on observations and told that our written observations should be the unexpected things but at the moment everything is unexpected as we don not really know the children. My colleagues have been making lots of notes for scrapbooks etc... where as I feel we should get to know the children first otherwise there could be an unbalanced look in their scrapbooks, ie loads from the first few weeks. I just feel we should give them settling in time b…

Hi, So what does your weekly planning grid look like? Mine changed about 3 times last year - I just can't seem to get a good balance between what I want on the plan and what has to be on the plan (e.g. sucess criteria!!) I would really like to start this year with one good planning format!! Please Help!

Changing The Areas In Your Classroom
by Guest- 1 reply

hi does anybody else have permanent areas in their classroom they they change resources in? for instance i have a permanent construction area however not enough room to have out all resources so on a half termly basis i change over my area. would you class this as continuous provision? or enhancements? if it is an enhancement then i would have no permanent provision for construction? i was under the impression that an enhancement is maybe small world people that you add to the area on a short term basis? i am a little confused as to what title to give these things on planning? sorry for rambling hope this makes some sense!
